The spurs and villa double is about 11/1. It could be a little settler for us all. Even if that happens then we are still in poll position. If we can beat saints. If that happens and we don’t beat saints then it will be a tough week on the nerves!

Seeing loads of negative comments on the match thread.

We are playing lots of challenging games in quick succession. We have a few injuries and are bringing on more youth players and still fighting for 6th spot which I think we will get.

Keep positive and keep the faith. UTA
Good post. The state our squad is in and having to play so many games caused the result tonight. You have to wonder what would have happened if we'd been knocked out of the FA Cup at an early stage. It really would have done us a massive favour. Still all to play for.

Negative comments on the match thread are nothing new. Some posters only ever post on match threads when we are losing or playing badly. As an example, one poster has posted nearly 50 posts on the Everton and Newcastle threads and a grand total of 0 on the Man United and Arsenal threads.
Just ignore them.
It has been years since I have had the misfortune to view a matchday thread on here. I'm very lucky in that I get to see every Premier League fixture live, of course, but I would rather stick needles into my eyeballs than have to read a matchday thread in progress.

Can't be done with any negative comments tonight. Haven't even looked at the match thread! :)

Big thanks for @bhafc99 for heading out tonight for my 52nd birthday out here in Dubai.

Yes, the boys didn't give me a 3 point present on the day itself, but they did provide those early against Arsenal.

And I'm in no doubt that they'll provide them again albeit belatedly on Sunday against Southampton.

Just as tonight's game was very much Newcastle's to win, Sunday's is very much ours.

Nothing to worry about - Villa won't beat Liverpool and Spurs have won 2 of the last 9 games.

The Seagulls over Dubai will be celebrating just as hard on Sunday as we clinch European football as you at the Amex!

Thanks! It's been a good one, TB.

Having supported the Albion through thick and thin like many of us, I learned early on that it's a good idea not to let life be defined by mere football results! :)

They're a good side, wanted it more and were much better on the day. It happens. No disgrace and nothing for us to be wailing and gnashing our teeth about.

Just like we saw a reaction after Everton against Arsenal, we'll see the same against Southampton following today.

Nothing for Albion fans to worry about.

Europe it will be.

Funny - I’m sure I’ve been defending RDZ, his line ups and our individual players ad nauseum the past 3 games, including tonight, explaining the injury, congestion and fatigue issues but it must have fallen on deaf ears - I should have started a thread instead of posting positive and supportive comments on the match threads 😂

RDZ's hands have been majorly tied with the injuries and fixture pile up, I find it incredible that some on here are picking faults with his team selections etc - we pretty much have no other options if we want to try and keep our best players relatively fresh.

We are prioritising Sunday's game based on last night's team selection which is the correct thing to do. It would be a huge bonus if Villa and Spurs fail to win on Saturday, I can't see this hapenning mind, but the priority games are Saints and Villa - I think RDZ will rotate the squad against Man City as well.

I have the faith.

Aside from those who went there, I really struggle to fathom why people are so surprised or disappointed. It's a numbers game: we need a minimum of 3 points to make Europe as Villa and Spurs could both plausibly lose on Saturday. We have a far better chance of beating Saints on Sunday with a full strength team than if we played a full strength team last night. It's as simple as that for me.

I think he knew tonight was a write off with who he had available and is resting folk to get 3 points on Sunday
But was it a write off? We were poor first half but they weren't brilliant . We scored the first time we went a bit more direct. Enciso changed the game and another day he might of had a couple. If we are looking to rotate then Mitoma is the one who needs a rest.

I said it before the game and I’ll say it again, we are still favourites to get 6th even if we lose against Newcastle city AND villa so no bed wetting please - also De Zerbi probably knows this too and rested key players so we have our very best team available for Southampton which really is a MUST WIN

I'm not, not sure Peterborough are either, oh you mean that other game, doh!
As I’ve said before my son in law is a Massive fan so I was delighted for him. Stuff of dreams and don’t despair you can still hope for a Final playoff failure :lolol:

Seven games in 26 days and a whole gaggle of first team squad players out injured has forced RDZ's hand. The fixture congestion has been too much. The players raise themselves for a stellar performance, then their isn't enough recovery time before the next game comes along.
Last 9 PL games......WLWLWWLWL......no draws.......last six games....three ruthlessly efficient wins....three sloppy, heavy defeats.
Only failed to score ONCE in our last 25 PL games ( and that was the battering of Fulham that defied belief ) We are running on empty at times but are still in there fighting. We have been handicapped by a series of incorrect VAR decisions. More than any other PL team but are still in there fighting.
Ultimately, our destiny could be decided by one season defining result. Tottenham 2 Brighton 1, when a deserved 3 points were taken off us and awarded to the home side. Tottenham should now be on 54 pts and us 61 pts. i.e they couldn't catch us. As it is....they can still deprive us of a Europa League spot.
( ....and they say these things balance themselves out..!!!!! )

Tiredness is a factor but realistically only dunk, Moises, mitoma and perv have played 90 mins on the last few games. Everyone else has had a rest.

The central defensive position is the most important role in RDZ philosophy. JPVH looked tentative last night and it cost us.
