Correct, and I fail to understand - if the OP alludes to such fans - why pointing this out or discussing is deemed to be negative. Conversely, similar clap trap (to borrow a phrase!) was peddled this time last year when many fans including myself said we’d be in a relegation battle, Locadia and Ali J weren’t good enough etc only to be slammed (but proved right!) for saying so because of a few 1 nil victories that could easily have ended in defeat. You can bet GP and co aren’t happy with losing, are analysing errors and discussing with players in the hope they cut out - so why shouldn’t we?! Providing it’s civil, of course. Which majority of chat on here is.

I think it's easy to forget that we all thought we were doing really well at this stage last season, so to be close to that is fine. The real difference now is that under Chris Hughton, for all the great stuff he did, we were grinding out results early on and creating very little. That came to haunt us in the second half of the campaign. While I'm also concerned that we're repeatedly not getting what we deserve from games, there's every reason to be optimistic and believe that will improve. Plus our apparently bad run of 1 win in 8 came from a list of brutal fixtures. Everything will look a lot brighter if we put Bournemouth to the sword tomorrow.
It may be touch and go all season, but that's just what it's like when you're in with the big fish...
Good point. Last year many were very pleased with our points tally in the first half of the season yet this year a similar return is a disaster in the eyes of some. The doom mongers completely ignore the fact that last year we rode our luck before falling off a cliff. We're nowhere near the cliff edge this year.

No doubt it’s a better style of football to watch and I’m glad Potter is the coach but we had better start picking up points soon. I think the side lacks firepower in midfield and upfront apart from Maupay. Too reliant on set pieces. Potter will need to address this in the next few transfer windows - let’s hope we are not in the championship by that time.
Next game against Bournemouth and the January return fixture are key games that need to be won and to turn over Aston Villa.
If we don’t start winning soon I can see the confidence going.

He was visibly flagging in the last 15 mins or so, hence a couple of those late runs forward coming to nothing.

Big difference this year is that last year we knew what we had and it wasn’t going to get any better, this year the team is evolving and improving with every game. I’m not nervous about relegation at all as I think we’ll pick up more points in the second half of the season than this first half.

Very reasonably argued, but you are highlighting individual mistakes rather than reflecting on the 90 minute game. There are very few games when one team will dominate for 90 minutes, even Sheffield United suggested that they were up against it for significant periods of the game. I don't agree Spurs were better than us over 90 minutes, but I can agree that they were better in the moments of the game when chances came their way. I thinks it's reasonable to argue that for some matches this season, our overall performances suggest it would would not be unreasonable for us to have taken more from the game in terms of points than we got. Dominating a game for 70 minutes, you would normally expect to win it. Of course, many matches are decided on individual moments/mistakes but often the team that has the ball, creates opportunities, shoots more throughout the game might expect to get more from it than the opposition. The Everton game was a good example - Everton would have felt they deserved a point, and they probably did..

Most pleasing surprise player of the season for me, energy, passion, comitment and skill. Closely followed by Alzate and Connelly. Conversly most dissapointing would be Trossard post injury.

I'm with you. Last year though, I think people were pleased with the position in the table more than the points total per se. It looked better because 3 teams were already losing ground with no signs of improvement. This year, Watford and Norwich have similar points total to Cardiff, Fulham and Huddersfield did, but Watford have shown some progress in last few weeks, whilst the rest of us are more bunched up than this time last year. As others have said the next 6-8 weeks will be more defining for us - : can the style of play give us the edge we were missing vs. teams around us... You have to look at performances and believe that we will get more points than we did in the 2nd half of last season and therefore be "safe". Points total for safety might be higher than in recent years though!

Shocked and somewhat appalled at a lot of the negativity on here after our defeat yesterday on the back of many toys being thrown out of prams after our defeat at home to imho the best promoted side in recent history in Sheffield United.
I'll let it be known that I was dissapointed in the way the club handled itself in the sacking of Hughton so soon after he'd kept us in the promised land of the EPL for another season but GPott has turned me round.
The football we are playing now is easy on the eye, attractive, entertaining front foot football. It's not without its weaknesses but that is to be expected given that GPott has only had one transfer window and is still working with much of the squad he inherited but in less than half an EPL season he's completely turned around the way we play. Facts are points wise we may not be better off than what we were this time a year ago, but lets be honest the points we had accumulated were due to some squeaky, fortunate single goal wins at home and given the performances in those games the results they were producing was unsustainable which was borne out in our points tally in the second half of the season.
Thats not the case now, we are creating many more chances, keeping the ball far better and are generally giving ourselves much more of a chance to win games. I understand there are faults to iron out, we are not as defensively solid as we were and we look vulnerable at times but that is how we play and I am confident in what I have seen in 6 months of GPott that given another couple of transfer windows he can identify players who can improve us and contunie to work on the training ground in further honing and perfecting the new style of play.
Now is not the time for doubts, like Tony has done we all need to get behind GPott and the boys starting tomorrow in a crucial game, it is the time to hold our nerve and I have no doubt the results will follow and we will once again retain our EPL status for another season, doing so in a fashion and style far more enjoyable than what we were getting under Chrissy boy.

An extremely erudite post, only let down by the repeated use of the inane word GPott. We ****ing moan about people calling Hughton Houghton, so can’t we at least give our manager the good grace of using his name?

I'm not sure why so many long term football fans on here haven't cottoned on to the fact that every season has its ups and downs. We've just had a tough run of games and, surprise surprise, not picked up so many points. We have a few easier games in Jan/Feb. Let's see how that goes before getting all depressed and predicting relegation.
Mr Potter is still learning bout the players he has and what combinations work together. Jose and Solly haven't been available and might combine on the left. Schelotto might be a Potter style wing back. Certainly adds some pace, as would Jose. Conolly and Maupay are obviously still learning at this level and have time of their side. The team that ends the season will probably look a lot different from the one that started. These are the early stages of a project and I'm loving watching the team. We've beaten Spurs and Arsenal, had Liverpool hanging on at Anfield, gave Palace a footballing lesson for 70 odd minutes. There's the nucleous of a very good football team that just needs a bit more time together and probably a couple of reinforcements. Those reinforcements may already be at the club.
I know I should be used to the doom and gloom on here when we lose, but I still find it uncomfortable. Can people really not see past a run of a few games and not see the potential?
