Kaz has lost his pace

Somebody said tonight that KLL only got the plate taken out of his leg a fortnight ago. No idea if that is true or not, but might explain why he's a bit subdued at the moment.

Edwards was excellent and nobody was going to get much joy from him tonight. One of the best right back performances from an away player at the Amex to date.

The biggest problem for me with Kaz is his movement. He just does not cause the opposition problems off the ball, the number of times in the first half Bridge would have it and Lua Lua would make some bone headed run or drop in to a useless position it was unreal. Buckley may not have been at his best on Saturday but he at least occupies defenders and makes them cover his runs. Lua Lua just stands on the wing and waits for the ball, at the start of the second half he moved around more and as a result had his best spell. He just does not seem to be learning at all.

There's something not quite right with Calde.
He's half the player he was last season.

It's almost as if he's reluctant to cross the halfway line.
As opposed to not wanting to go back again.

I believe that Poyet was critical that he neglected defensive duties last season which may be a factor.

Never makes a run past his man, never does his hit and run move anymore.

I'm probably wrong but already tonight he has been in several positions to knock it past and tyrn on the boosters but turned it down every time.

I think it is first touch that is not quite up to it sometimes. It seems multi-tasking spoils his concentration. I was disappointed at his performance in his strongest traits.

I am not sure that he works well with Orlandi. They are too similar sort of players.

I just don't rate KLL -

Doesn't do the defensive work you need to in a 4-2-3-1 (which is what we played last night)
Didn't once get behind the full back (and if the right back was so good why didn't the wide men swap sides for 20 mins and try their luck)
Plays head down and for himself
Does step overs while standing still in front of his marker (any kid of 11 knows you have to be travelling forwards to beat someone with a trick - i can do step overs stationary!)
Doesn't look fit.

While I'm at it

Other teams rate us and will always come with 2 banks of 4. the only way to get through them is to drag them around - our movement up top is non existent! (thats how much we miss CMS Can't believe there were people on here slating him for lack of goals - he makes the WHOLE team look better) Loads of times the back 4 had the ball and no-one gave them an option! Just static waiting for someone to do something instead of working off the ball to create space.
Dobbie is a quality player in the right formation (or that 4 2 3 1 with a target man better than Barnes (who isn't a target man anyway))
We need a creative midfielder - saturday our left back was got MOM because he was the only one getting forward and taking people on - that shouldnt really be his job should it???? Once in a while yeah but not everytime he gets the ball. Maybe he was poor last night because he was knackered from saturday?

Orlandi looked good and it meant we had someone who could deliver a decent dead ball into the box.

Oh and do you think we'll ever go with two or three up top when we're chasing the game? Saturday was crying out for Agdestein. how many times is he going to be left on the bench before he fcks off to get a game? give him a go!!

Rant over, opinions welcome, off to work in a bad mood!

So why the hell play him?

I agree - and thought that he simply oozed class. A terrific performance.

So if Edwards was so good and clearly Kaz was getting absolutely nowhere on the left, why didn't he switch to the right to see if he could make more impact from there?

He didn't seem to have lost that much pace against Birmingham and Barnsley.

Last night he was up against an excellent and experienced player in Carlos Edwards (man of the match in my opinion) who had him in his pocket. You could see that from very early on in the match so I was hoping Gus would swap him to the right side either half way through the first half or at half time.

Lua Lua does need to have a plan B though if his step over and sprint isn't working against a full back though.

Anyway, KLL missed a sitter after 40 seconds last night. Should have taken him off there and then! #ruthless

Did he not set up the equaliser, from the by-line...?
On one of his very rare forays forward.

Buckley cutting inside taking the left back out of position allowing Calde to run onto the ball played into the space, no longer exists.

Thinking about it, V Brum and last night, we seemed to run out of space.

They drop back, the defence steps up, to the half way line and even further.

Not giving any space for KLL Buckley Calde (Bridge seems to be managing it) to really properly run at their defence.

Lua Lua has never been the fastest player (buckley/bridge for example are much faster). However his acceleration is phenomenal...a wet pitch never helps him, and so it proved yesterday.

I guess Gus was remembering how Lua Lua terrorised Ipswich last season and coupled with Bucks poor performance vs. Brum made him bring him in.

Not a great game for Kaz, but he'll be back.

I do wonder whether KLL is still worried about his ankle/hamstring, which may explain his seeming reluctance to sprint/turn on the after burners. I think we should give him a little while longer yet before writing him off as an asset.
