To be fair, at the start that's all it was. He asked if he could train with us to get fit, the club could have said no.

I don't mind the fact he's been training with us to get fit, as he may teach our team a thing or two in the process.

No deal: Kanchelskis

Andrei Kanchelskis will not be joining Albion after failing to agree personal terms.

The 34-year-old former Manchester United winger has been training with the Seagulls since the start of August and was offered a three-month contract, but Coppell confirmed today: "He won't be joining us.

"It has never really been an issue. He has trained with us to get fit and as far as I am concerned that was the prime motivation for the whole thing.

"At one stage there was a suggestion he might want to sign for us, but we knew right from day one we weren't on the same football pitch as regards finance
