This has got the potential to be our Merson... come on Steve and Dick - sign him up...

before Pardew does... :nono:

Imagine drawing Chelsea in one of the cups - I can see the headline now:

Can Chelski cope with Kanchelskis?

:lolol:

Go for it Stevie. Kanchelskis would be a fantastic addition to the club and would let everyone know that we mean business this season. We'll soon be favourites for the Div 2 title, especially if we sign a powerful, tall striker as well. Here's to it...

It's perfectly simple. The article says he has the option of another year, which implies that it's down to both parties whether or not he stays. And he's already said he wants a move to England.

This "two week" talk is all a smokescreen. You don't need that long to see player of Kanchelskis's quality. If both him and us are happy a deal will be knocked up in a couple of days. Who knows, they might even be discussing it now?

A first I was sceptical but now I'm really excited at the prospect of him burning down the right (yes, right) wing. He was an integral part of what was, IMHO, the best Man United side ever and could be a superstar for us as well.

"We haven't discussed it and his registration is held by the Saudi Arabian club," Coppell said. "I've no intention, but if he becomes available he is local and it might just slot into place.

You a register a player for a season. Therefore he is presumably registered for this club for the up coming campaign.

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
I would play him right side and push OGH back up front.
OGH and Knight would be plenty good enuff for Div 2.
Jones on the left, problems solved.

Come on SC, don't (uk)rain on our parade, you've got(smanov) to sign him up. I remember reading a newspaper article years ago about how much he loves Sussex and how he was going to put roots down here at some point. I think he was still at Man Ure at the time. Even if we don't get him now, he's got to be odds on to join the Albion coaching staff after he retires.

I poo pooed this heavily yesterday as a ludicrous luxury waste of wages (assuming a comedy wage) but if it were that he wasn't in it for the money and just wanted to play some footie, it would be absolutley fantastic if he turned out for us this term even if it were only for a few games before raising his profile and leaving for a West Ham (or a Pompey :( )

And for some of the youngsters - and indeed older pros, having someone like that about in pre-season training must be bloody inspiring

It is not the transfer fee it is the wages - If you couldn't sign John Robinson because you could not affor his wages how are you going to sign Kanchelskis?

He is under contract.

Coppell clarified the situation: "He's still contracted to a Saudi Arabian club [Al-Hilal] I believe, and he's in dispute with or up for transfer from them and he's literally just ticking over. He doesn't live far away and he asked whether he could come in, and I thought, looking at his pedigree and the medals and the trophies he's won, we wouldn't be an embarassment in training.

Is this true Pevensey? Did you pooh pooh it? Well damn it, what more evidence do you need? I once had to disband a whole regiment because of pooh pooh. They pooh poohed it. And that's the problem you see. A whole regiment pooh poohed, because of pooh pooh
etc etc

Who can make up a good chant for him then?

Sign him up Stevie! - even if he will cost money, we have £100,000 and he will not be that much!

We are going up...

Surely the old Man U. chant would do. just keep repeating "Andrei, Andrei Kanchelskis" over and over to the old Cossack tune, speeding it up as you go.

Too far from the sun
In the early 90's my wife's little brother was about 8. His favourite team was Man u (it's alright I have long since converted him to the Albion) and his favourite player was Kanchelskis.

Some saddo in his family decided to buy him a Man U shirt for christmas. When he opened the present his eyes lit up until he noticed the players name on the shirt - Kanchleskis - spelt wrong by the sports shop.

Andrei may have moved to a number of other clubs since but he will always be Kanchleskis to me, even if he joins us. (sorry - much as I would like to see it I don't think it will happen)
