Few years later and he is still playing LB (now with Hertha in Bundesliga 2).

One bad season, OK - it's more of a concern if he doesn't pass the NDP test with his apparent reluctance to put himself out or move out of his comfort zone. Somewhere where it's grim oop north next, please!

We all know they don’t all come off - but you’ve got to buy a ticket and all that. As for a transfer loss, meh, we’ll claw back a little from the sale and lots has been amortised anyway. Accounting wise given the remaining length of his contract, it’s very likely a profit for PSR purposes.

The idea remains, use analytics and scouting networks to identify high potential targets, buy them and increase their value for sale (to Chelsea ) - one in 7-8 of these needs to work to cover all the failed prospects.

We've nothing to gain except a hefty loss by selling him now. We should give him a chance - but just make it a bloody tough one, and if he doesn't like it, tough!

I really don’t think it would be a “hefty loss” in real terms. We are reported widely as paying £8m, on a four year contract from 2022-2026. For accounting purposes, simplistically he would’ve had half of that fee amortised, leaving £4m on the books. Therefore, any fee we receive is deductible against that. If we got a couple of million, that would be set against the remaining £4m leaving the resulting figure as the reported loss.

However, loan fees are also offset against PSR, so if we received anything from his loans elsewhere (many clubs want a loan fee instead of wages being paid - that way they can add them as profits on the financials) so they would also be included.

For example, Fati with us. He might be earning let’s say for simplicity’s sake £100k p/w. We might pay them a loan fee of £10m with Barcelona continuing to pay his wages. That way they can register a £10m “profit”, despite actually paying his wages and spending the same amount.

Adingra, Mitoma as you say with USG. JPvH, Mac Allister and you could argue Caicedo. Oh, and let's not forget Connolly's stint in Italy.

Back on Kozlowski, wasn't he the player who rejected the loan move we suggested and instead did a second season at Vitesse? Apologies if already covered in the thread.

Victoria Gyökeres and Leo Ostigard both did okay at St Pauli I think and Ostigard also had a productive loan at Genoa

There does seem to be something negative about most overseas loans though, apart from the ones that were needed for work permit issues (which, TBH, was most of the USG ones too) - more of them....Karbownik, Scherpen, Alzate for example....... seem to be 'out on loan in the hope that somebody bites' rather than developing them.
Maybe that's just my perception, I won't die on that particular hill. But if Kozlowski goes anywhere other than an (grim northern town) EFL loan, I will feel I've reinforced my perception!
