In all seriousness, it's supposed to be pretty hard to get in these days with the Australian style set up.

dunno about that what was the crime rate before they started doing all this. i presume it was after the revolution they started all this hanging people off cranes business.

we had a girl disfigured by an acid attack she now has a telly programme and is a national heroine and the bloke got a reasonably lengthy but not shockingly long sentence and will get out a relatively young man.

The reason they hack off a hand (it's the right hand) is because the left hand is used to wipe your bottom. The right hand is used for eating and in fact it's considered a gross insult you offer your left hand for shaking. They have used these practices for centuries but it should be remembered that it wasn't that long ago when Hanging, Drawing and Quartering was the order of the day in this country, cruel and unusual indeed. A couple who stole from the Royal Household a few centuries ago were chained up in the Thames (which was filthy in those days) at low tide and then allowed to slowly drown as the tide rose. We also were quite keen on burning people alive.
