Stunning. Was Transformers 2 which i had to get from Blockbuster as am awaiting Band of Brothers to arrive in post. Must say the picture was brilliant. Was knocked out by as it as I must admit to being a tad unsure as to the benefits of blu-ray, being a cynical old fart. Great stuff
I taked the missus into watching it last night too - awesome, the reviews had suggested it was poor in light of the first one but I thought it was the dogs. What bluray players were made for - come on George Lucas, pull your finger out.

Being ignorant of these things do you have to have an HD TV for these Blue Ray things as I am against paying extra to sky for HD.

Yes, you need at least an HD ready tv to get Blu Ray in HD. They aren't expensive now, Tesco had a 32" full HD LCD tv yesterday for £199, but generally speaking, you would be looking at £300+ for the cheapest ones

Sky HD is a seperate issue, and you don't need Sky HD for Blu Ray. But if you already have a HD tv, then upgrading to Sky HD will make the picture much sharper on non HD programmes, and lots sharper on HD transmissions. Sky have a fair few HD channels where all content is broadcast in HD. In Tesco, if you buy a HD tv (ready or full) they give you the Sky HD box for free then you just pay the HD sub to sky which I think is about £10 pm

I have a Sony Bravia 40" but it is the older 1080i version not the 1080p . Would I notice the difference if I went blu-ray ?

(I currently have an upscaling Denon DVD player that was recommended by one of the AV forums 3 or so years ago for £200)

I'd expect small OLED TVs to only be a few months away, they're finally actually starting to appear in real applications (phones and laptops) although they're still limited to financially viable screen sizes that might have been normal in 1954 for a TV...

32"+ OLED TVs are going to be wallet-shattering for the next few years at least - once they even hit the market.

I know.

So, errrm, thanks. As I said - LED TVs do not exist yet. And especially not in the lounges of folk who shelled out £299 a while back.

You probably would notice, yes.

But try and stick to buying content you like rather than falling into the 'really shows off blu-ray' buying trap.

(Some stuff is good AND will show off blu-ray too, of course)

Thanks I may come back to you/the forum for recommendations when I have saved the money for the player....could be a while unless I get lucky job wise in the near future !
