It’s his experience / opinion. I work with 15/20 people and every one has denounced these people and the disruption they’re causing.

I’ve spoke to many clients and people in completely differing industries (vehicle leasing etc) that have all denounced them too.

That’s just my experience.
You can't dismiss something as "his experience / opinion" when replying to somebody reporting exactly the same thing.
Well, you can, you can write almost literally whatever you like, but it doesn't make for a sound argument.
The people you're arguing with on here are real people (hard to believe as that might sometimes seem), it doesn't make any sense to claim you haven't met anybody who supports the protesters while arguing with people who support the protesters.

Stop giving personal experience views and stick to quoting the media that suits - that’s what most on here are doing! That’s 2 NSC posters in one afternoon who have had their lives seriously affected by these morons - but they still won’t listen as it’s not the FACTS they wish to hear. In everyday life in all sorts of different places and different people I have literally not heard anyone stick up for them. Everyone says what morons they are. Yet NSC seems to have dozens sticking up for them. It’s either hiding behind the keyboard syndrome or a really odd disproportionate % of people backing the criminals to what I’ve experienced in real life.

You’ll never win though - even by writing personal miserable experiences on here at the hands of these cretins. Sounds like you’ve had a rough time mate - thoughts with you 👍
The thing is it is possible to have sympathy for those effected by the JSO protesters and also have sympathy for people affected by climate change
The bush fires over here not so long ago were horrific and watching people's stories around them was heart heartbreaking.

No one on here doesn't want these things to happen and everyone feels bad for people caught up and seriously affected by their actions. Some of us are just glad that a group are keeping the message about climate change front and centre. Do we all agree with everything they do? No of course not, but they are doing something a well.

You may need to accept that some people are going to have a different opinion to you and your circle of friends. You seem very angry about this fact. Maybe this thread isn't for you?

Fwiw this thread probably does have a disproportionate % of supportive posters being as people interested in the subject are posting.

Disagree with that - think they hear the worst case and go with it. They are not scientists and pick and choose which scientists are right. Think they are more concerned with personal attention than the climate and many brainwash eachother to believe the worst case scenario which won’t happen. Opinions eh.
If this is what you then it is no wonder you are so angry about them.
The thing is though do you have any evidence to show that this is the case or is this a theory that you have decided is the truth?

It sounds like one of those truisms that does the rounds with stuff like this. Apart from having evidence that this is true it also seems obvious to me that no-one is really getting any self promotion out of this. I know the cause I know their broad aims but I don't know any individual names.

Just to add onto jackalbion here, I'd say the overwhelming majority of my colleagues (civil engineering consultancy) are broadly supportive of the protesters.
Of course, being engineers we are also deeply cynical and spend half our time trying to reduce how much concrete we use to cut carbon emissions and the other half filling holes with concrete to save time.
Similarly I work in public transport and it’s a similar mind set

Too nuanced for me :ban:

I’ve also noted not one of the JSO supporters on here bothered to send their condolences to the poor bloke who’s wife miscarried their baby and JSO heaped more pain on him. Not one to sympathise for the poor bloke who had to spend a night in a lay-by in his lorry because of them, away from his family etc. I thought the left were meant to be peace and love etc - load of tosh if this thread is anything to go by. Poor and speaks volumes for me.
One in ten pregnancies result in miscarriages. It’s horrible but it’s part of life that we have to deal with. I have sympathy with women who go through it. Personally having been pregnant, I wouldn’t want my partner there but that’s just me.

I haven’t seen the post by the person who’s wife had a miscarriage, mainly because I haven’t spend all day on here arguing with people on the internet. Of course that is sad, not really sure why you’ve decided to brand everyone as not giving a shit, as I know people who have had miscarriages and how it deeply affects them, so to suggest that I and others don’t care quite frankly makes you the arsehole here. Forgot that everyone on the left wing has to constantly be nice, or be polite and have higher standards than everyone else on the right.

EDIT: May I also add using this person’s tragic story to beat the left with a stick is even more odd.

Yep agreed, he should be f***ing ashamed of himself.
I think it'd be helpful if everybody on all sides took a step back and chilled out a little, regardless of our views on the matter.

Gods country fortnightly
JSO are pretty amateurish and some of the media interviews with usual right wing nuts are a bit embarrassing.

But their actions are keeping the subject front and centre. It’s going to be the defining issues of our age we better all get used to it. We’re looking at breaching 1.5c before the end of the decade, this was unthinkable only a couple of decades ago.

Leaders need to be held responsible if they don’t act and be prosecuted into due course for crimes against humanity.

If you can catch it and harness it before it gets here.

Once it's here it's too late.

From what I understand the Earth is EXACTLY just the right distance from the sun to make it habitable for life.

The Earth is about 24k miles in diameter.

Taking the distance in straight line from the sun to the equator and sun to the poles is F all really, maybe 12k miles? And look at the difference in climate between those places.

It's insane.

The person who finds the cheap, pollution free, inert, easy to produce and use that is so versatile alternative will run the world.....
The average distance between the sun and the poles is the same as the average distance between the sun and the equator. This is because the earth spins round, once every 24 hours, so all parts in turn get to be near the sun and away from the sun.

As Van Cleef points out further down the thread, the poles are at a more oblique angle to the sun so the light has to pass through more air, and the light also has to cover a larger amount of land; both reasons for it being colder up (and down) there. Probably being out of the sun altogether for 6 months makes a difference too.

It's nothing to do with the odd 4,000 miles, not least because the sun isn't a perfect geometric sphere and the earth doesn't have a perfectly circular orbit, so the difference from the axis of the earth to the edge of the sun varies by a lot more than 4,000 miles anyway.

Incidentally, many millions of years ago when there was no ice cap at either pole, the earth was perfectly habitable for life. Huge dinosaurs roamed all over including on Antarctica. While there are plenty of reasons why we might be worried about global warming, boiling seas and an uninhabitable planet aren't one.

Would be if he didn’t find the need to then laugh at the fact that other people have had miscarriages or know people that have had miscarriages, but it’s a big laugh for him. Incredibly tragic behaviour from a fully grown man. Maybe he should be less of a bully and an insensitive loser.

As someone who’s wife recently had a miscarriage, I can say it’s not a very nice experience all round. Hopefully no long term issues and a mini Seagull eventually. Amazed the topic has taken over an NSC thread, even if it is a politics one where people seem to like a rant about grouping half the population together under one name/wing.

Hadn't previously realised you were so opposed to "the left".

I read the post and felt a great deal of sympathy for the poster and his family.
I am sorry for his pain and hope they are all able to come to peace with it in time.

Unfortunately, your post sounded less sympathetic and more opportunistic.
Seizing on it to make accusations about the humanity of people you have decided are your enemy.

I don't like the individuals who are demonstrating. They come across as arrogant pricks most of the time.
I don't like the distress it causes some individuals whose lives have been impacted by the protest.

But it doesn't change any of the facts about climate change.
Or the fact that successive governments have decided to do little to prevent the impending catastrophe.

Direct action has proven to be the only effective method to instigate real political change.
I understand why they feel compelled to resort to it now.

Meanwhile there are heat domes, record temperatures (36 degrees in Arctic Canada this week), wildfires, flash floods and drought all over the place.

But yeah throwing a jigsaw onto a court at Wimbledon was definitely worse than that.
