Oh wow look, Just Stop Oil do something that impacts the rich and politicians and nobody here is talking about it, seems like people only care when it impacts them.

If that was my wedding I would have knocked them the f*** out.

Regardless of opinions on Osborn, that’s overstepping the mark in a big way. Cretin of a woman.

You would have knocked out a woman in her 50s or 60s? If Carlsberg did Aussie stereotypes......
Bit old for 'just a rich kid playing with their trust fund'.

For me, it's very telling that people only seem to be talking about (and being INCANDESCENT WITH RAGE!) about what JSO and others are doing, as opposed to stopping and thinking about WHY they are doing it.

There are also some very selfish attitudes from people about disruption to their own lives but then they are also frothing at the gash about a bit of confetti being thrown about at sporting events completely unconnected to them which, let's face it, causes very minimal disruption in the grand scheme of things.

Also, it's funny how EVERY form of protesting/making a point seems to be the WRONG way of doing it in the eyes of some :lolol:

Personally I have no problem with that sort of protest - low impact yet high visibility.

i would guess that the throwing of the confetti caused far less disruption to the wedding than the numbers of media photographers and reporters at the wedding who were there and yet gained wide publicity for their cause.

A much better form of protest than physically damaging property and causing huge disruption.

Doesn't your first sentence point to the fact that they aren't getting their message across effectively so maybe they need to consider a different approach?

Hmmmm, it's their first action I'll not be applauding.

I completely agree with everything you say and it is once again a phenomenal piece of low impact protest, but it is still the blokes wedding.

Just becaue I think he's a ****, many others think he's a ****, I'd imagine even quite a lot of ****s also think he's a ****, he's still a **** who is entitled to get married without being reminded what a **** he is.

Unsurprisingly that **** Morgan is outraged.

My rule of thumb for protests is:-

'if ****y Morgan's boiling more piss and I can, at worst, see that weapons grade ****s point of view, there's something off with the protest'.

The confetti was at someone’s (private) wedding, not a sporting event…….which is out of order imo. Anyone in the public eye will maybe now have to think about security for their weddings, christenings and birthday parties ? Sporting events are fairer game perhaps, blocking roads not so much.

I don't think people know enough about the issues in order to have an informed opinion about JSO, including myself. The government have recently granted licences for new oilfields to be opened off the north coast of Scotland. That appears to be against the direction of travel re the use of fossil fuels. Why did they take those decisions? Why haven't they allowed more onshore wind?

These are the issues that don't get the airtime they deserve while we get bollocks about Prince Harry and enquiries into Tory lies and sleaze day after day.

there Is enough information around for people to make up their own minds about this issue
it’s the usual story a very small amount of people trying to tell the overwhelming majority of people in this country what to do and think ,
what this lady did was an assault and should be prosecuted

It's a private function.

Someone's special day.

Anyone who thinks they have some special right to crash that needs a massive slap.

I was listening to the radio where it is suggested that feeding daffodils to cattle will reduce their greenhouse gas emission by 30%. This claim is either true or false. Let's park that for a moment. I can't find the news story and the best data I have found is from 2019 (https://blog.agchemigroup.eu/flower...of this, organisms to break down carbohydrates.)

George Monbiot called this 'greenwashing'. I found this intriguing and looked up the term.

So, my understanding is that sportswashing is when nasty nations (it used to be multinationals) dump loads of money into a sport so that it appears they are a normal part of the world, making it more likely they will be left to get on with their nasty business.

This means that greenwashing would be nasty oil companies throwing money at green issues to make it look like they are eco friendly so they can be left alone to pursue their nasty petrochemical agenda.

The problem I have with greenwashing in this context is that if feeding daffodils to cattle will reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 30% how is this bad? And isn't it fatuous to criticize oil companies if they are behind this?

Apart from anything else, oil companies* are putting fuel in all our (non-electric) cars. They are not beheading cyclists and chopping the hands off people with solar panels.

*Well, gulf state oil companies probably are, but that is about gulf states, not oil.

The reason I am emoting is that 'greenwashing' if it promotes environmental issues properly and with real impact, has to be a good thing, surely? It won't make me put yet more diesl in my car and drive some extra miles.

that's known, locals dont want onshore windfarms. the politicans will say they want them built, then in face of local hostility say no we wont after all, dropping legislation that will force it through. (see also home building.) easier to get offshore wind through and there is a steady flow of developments, but more costly and longer to build.

what isn't talked about is what we are willing to give up to maintain an oil and gas free world.

The motivation for opening new oilfields should be to enhance our energy security in the short to medium term whilst the transition to green takes place. Whether that is this government's main motivation is of course debatable. That maybe partly why JSO are seen in a very negative light as they started these protests during a period of massive upheaval in the energy supply.
