Thanks for answer. How do people in terraced houses charge car and install heat pumps. ? On the latter would be a good idea to be able to return all electrical goods to manufacturers/retailers when finished with. They would soon find a way to get a return. In the last year have thrown away a TV,a toaster and a strimmer.
Maybe a bit late but we have come a long way compared to a few years ago. All I know recycle have double glazing and loft insulation.

terraced home dwellers will have to use car share services or public transport. they'll have yards they can install heat pumps. flat dwellers might have some more problems there, but the grounds around blocks should have sufficient space (especially if removing car parking).

recycling is already pretty good for metals, recoving steel, aluminium, copper, silver and gold at scrap yards. if its remotely economical, recycling is done.

I don't think that's true, or at least not entirely what they think the UK should do.

According to their website they want to "..immediately halt all future licensing and consents for the exploration, development and production of fossil fuels in the UK."

Considering existing licences/consents re. development and production are not permanent they want more than just to stop the exploration in UK.

exactly, so the message "stop new licences in UK" is dishonest. they did have a blog post explaining the future, with people sharing appliances, recycling, smaller homes, alternatives to heating. they've taken it down now which is a shame as it illustrated well what the non-oil future wprks.

Exactly what the ramifications of halting all future licensing and consents would be is a different matter, and if they are suggesting life would carry on as normal, or there would be no/negligible impact etc. then that would be dishonest, because clearly things would change potentially/probably dramatically.

We can create a lot more employment from pushing insulation and renewables harder, this will also increase our energy independence.

Granting more licences in the UK won't give us the cheaper energy we crave, as we've seen we still pay the global price for fossil fuels. They've been screwing us of late and its driving inflation and now our interest rates are following.

The oil giants really fear renewables as they know ultimately it will destroy their businesses, they pretend to be green but its mostly greenwash and they invest only between 1 and 5% in these techologies.

Its little surprise so many lobby groups masquerading as think tanks are doing all possible to undermine the energy transition, Net Zero watch etc.

UK stopping our licences doesnt stop using oil. its just a stepping stone. asusming their longer term aim is stop oil, we need to go a lot further than some local licences. as it is, us stopping licences doesnt have any meaningful impact except to UK jobs and tax revenue.

There's a solution in there at least.

Jigsaw puzzles are the problem = stop selling jigsaw puzzles.

Whereas, oil is the problem = sell more of it

Speaking as a terraced home dweller, electric cars are still usable, but you need to accept that (dependent on your usage) you will spend at least one 40 minute session a week having a coffee somewhere with a fast charger.

I can’t afford a Polestar 2, but when they’ve been around long enough for the 2nd hand price to drop considerably it will be my next car.

I won’t have home charging capability, but with a real world range of about 360-370 miles, I’ll need to charge just less than once a week. With a fast charger that will be 34 minutes of charge time to take it from 10% to 80%.

The tech is here, we just need the level of bravery required to wean ourselves from the oily teat. (eeugh)
