“athletes are trying to feed their families”

LOL
What’s wrong with that? I’ve known a few in a certain sport and that’s exactly what they’re doing - and exactly why their work shouldn’t be interrupted / hurt by people who have nothing to do with it…

People who have the time to sit about watching Wimbledon and all day test matches complaining protestors have too much time on their hands 😂
People buying tickets to these events, stopping real fans from going, then trying to spoil the event for thousands are far worse 🤷🏻‍♂️

If that powder had got as far as the pitch at Lords that could have been test match over and hundreds of thousands of innocent people’s fun ruined by some idiots breaking the law. Fact. Boycott called it right for sure. Protest peacefully somewhere without healing misery on those going about their everyday lives and WORKING for a living - so so simple.

To everyone in support of these fools how would you feel if an oily person distrupted an Amex match, with us about to score and goal dissallowed/stopped by these idiots?
Weirdly enough I have it on good authority if they try the chaining to the goalpost shite at the Amex, the goal will be lifted out and a new one put in whilst the stewards deal with the criminals. They’d be getting pelters for sure in that scenario - it’s easy to act ‘cool’ on the Internet. You only have to listen to the Wimbledon and Lords’ crowds reaction to them to realise how annoyed people are with them.

Or read the comments on YouTube vids like this one (where the criminal thinks they have the right to touch someone else’s expensive property):

Gods country fortnightly
I would feel a mix of emotions. Perhaps initially disappointed that a game had been disrupted, perhaps even a flash of anger might make its way across my mind.
Then I might be somehow disassociated but mildly excited at the strange turn of events.
I think thenI’d enter a stage of brief contemplation which would drift into admiration for someone having the guts to put themselves on the line like that. I’d then settle into a rationale that it’s only a few seconds of a game out of tens of thousands of hours of football and it’s not that big a deal and perhaps a small price to pay for raising the issue of global warming.
Then as if in a movie, I’d snap back into the here and now of the game and probably forget it ever happened.

You?

Is that the sort of answer you were looking for

We must remember many around the world will never engage in leisure activities and never travel.

It is their lives that will be put in peril by climate change most, they have no defence and they did nothing to create their predicament.

For what it’s worth, I don’t agree with a lot of JSO’s tactics.

But as I mentioned on here before, one of my favourite things is watching people be outraged.

I especially like all the hyperbole and catastrophising that comes with it.

The red faces, the huffing and puffing. The uncoordinated physical retaliations usually ending up with the outraged in a sweaty, embarrassed, pile on the floor.

Manna from heaven.

I could watch outraged people all day long.

Climate activists are not the enemy or the problem. They are brave people, who believe the science. What are they supposed to do? Write another letter? Sign another petition? Two of them got banged up for a few years for daring to climb a bridge.

They may be "brave people" on one level in the sense that I wouldn't want to stand in front of angry commuters anf truck drivers on the M25, but that doesn't change the fact the they are strategic dimwits by eroding the credibility of the green cause. They are all so busy congratulating each other and posting stuff on social media to please the already converted that they remain blind to the bigger truth that, brave or not, they are weakening their own campaign.

Maybe you have too much time on your hands then 👍🤣

Yes I am outraged by the stupidity of these people. I also agree with action against climate change etc which we are already doing. Most of their theories and guessing / scaring and solutions make no sense and wouldn’t work though.

This makes me laugh.

Lift the post out of its hole, slide off, and kick the twat away, and replace the goal post.

If you're lucky, you can prize the cable tie tang, release and reuse them.

I hate single use plastic.

twats are organic, and most certainly regenerative.

It’d have to be a pretty f***ing special goal to justify destroying the planet for it

It’s great that the threat of a totally non-violent protest gets everyone talking about its possibility and the words Just Stop Oil are on every news report. That’s what we need to do: Just Stop new Oil and gas. Insulate Britain. Rebel against Extinction. Or nose dive into Hell with the Tories and others who think money is more important than society, life or justice.

Absolutely agree with that - and good to see we are making some positive steps carbon-wise although probably later than it should have been… Don’t think we’re as f***ed as you say and these people make out (usually worst case scenario guesswork) but it’s an issue we need to tackle and luckily are.

Now back to the morons pissing everyone off who mainly don’t work etc - that’s what the thread was about - the way they’re ‘protesting’ and how stupid it is…
I think they've been driven to it. Nothing else worked so why not try this.not that it is working

I hope were not as f***ed as I think we are, but the evidence suggests otherwise. It's going to accelerate I fear.

It's not the campaigners that's the problem, it's the idiotic nation that we've become. Lalala nothing happening, I like driving my car etc etc. No matter what approach is taken they'd continue to ignore.

They voted Boris Johnson in after all! Scary stuff, and it's not just this nation unfortunately.
Agree re Johnson etc but please be aware that just because we may agree that Boris and co are idiots doesn't mean that our own side are not largely idiots too.

JSO antics exist mostly to make the campaigners feel better about themselves. Get it into your head that their activites are NOT helping bring about meaningful change. The exact opposite in fact. They are alienating the people they need to convince. It's no good cheering up those who are already on message. Again, and for the last time: they mean well but are strategically boneheaded and weakening their own campaign.

The tragic truth is that no one is talking about the environmental issues, they are grumbling about how irresponsible these people are and how the police should be given greater powers against protestors. So counterproductive that I want to bang my head against the wall in frustration. Get smarter! Meet the 'enemy' head on, don't just offer up a ton of fuel to destroy the campaign.

People talk about the protesters and not the actual cause or their aims.

It is not practical or realistic to stop using oil.

A classic example of self-indulgence becoming more important than the cause. You're all tittering away and congratulating each other while oblivious to the bigger picture -- that your strategy is totally inept. It's like the Labour infighting in the last 3 elections. Everone's own little campaign against other party members is seen as paramount. Meanwhile, the Tories saunter into power again, barely able to believe their luck.

Hope is optimism, pretending in this context.
Have you heard of the Stockdale Paradox? Google if not. Anyway, I’m always persuaded by acknowledging reality, the facts, however brutal, to resolve problems. Generally the facts are we’re facing the worst crisis humanity has ever known. It’s beyond comprehension to a great many of us. We have missed, hopelessly, every target to date. And are projected to continue doing so. Moreover, the consequences of climate change aren’t in the future anymore: they’re here and now, happened and happening. Those are the brutal facts.

Why give up on hoping (optimism, pretending) things can change? Well, the additional anecdotal evidence is we are too busy, too selfish, too deluded, too divided, too numerous etc etc etc etc.

Over the years, in a same threads, I said martial law should be declared. It never will be. But that’s the sort of emergency / seismic shock required some time ago to even begin to tackle this problem. Imposed discipline. However… ‘You want “moi” to give up my classic polluting car?’, ‘Stop flying? I’ve worked hard all year for my holiday…’, ‘Insulate my house, who’s going to pay me for that…?’ ‘Stop procreating? I’m entitled to a large family if I want one!’ And a million other myopic arguments would continue on an endless loop even as the waves crash and the fires engulf us. In every country. And everyone.

Unless you’re a Totalitarian state, you cannot even begin to affect the necessary change in one country alone. Never mind 270+

That’s why I think we should stop pretending we can do anything about. It’s why past generations failed. We have. And future ones would also I dare hesitate to add.
So you think its inevitable that humans will become extinct in the future because of climate change, and we should just relax and enjoy ourselves while we are here until then.
What sort of timescale do you think this might happen, and do you think that its not worth young people starting a family today as there lives will be Hell like?

My strategy? I think you may be crediting me with more influence than I have!

As I’ve said numerous time, I don’t think their strategy works.

But if I get to see some gammons getting all hot under the collar and acting like toddlers who have been told they aren’t getting jelly for pudding, I’m all for it 👍

We’re doomed. Nobody who can change that, will change that. There’s simply no point taking any of it seriously anymore.
