Just how rich IS Bloom?

These threads always interest me only to consistently disappoint with the same old rubbish. Lets just get some things clear.

1. Blooms wealth does not come from Premierbet. It was a loss making company when he sold it around 2005 for around £1 million.
2. Blooms wealth does not come form poker. He has won around $4 million dollars from poker but you would need to deduct the loses from this.
3. He appears to be a big sports better. Winnings unknown to me.
4. He owns Starlizard consulting - income unknown to me.
5. He claims to invest in real estate the nature of which is unknown to me.
6. To the best of my knowledge, no one has posted any evidence of the source of his wealth but i am waiting for someone to do so.
7. I am very happy with my season ticket in a fantastic stadium and that we are top of the league.

FWIW I agree. I am not sure I want to rank the two periods of success as they were very different. The over spending to achieve the first was instrumental in causing the clubs near demise (which with hindsight sours it a little). The other was achieved after the clubs near demise and on a goest ring it was entirely unexpected after so many years wondering if we would even have a club.

Yep NSC at its best,

I'm not sure you could argue that we overspent in getting to the top division however, once we were there, I believe we signed players up to ridiculous 10yr contracts and obviously spent big to try and stay there. I don't agree that you can't rank the successes because the measure of success is, in my view, purely league or FA/League Cup success. Someone asked if you people would swap league two trophy for a place in the Premier league. I'm sure the vast majority of fans would prefer the later. To look at it another way, would you rather be fighting for promotion from the Championship for several years (aka most of the Amex years) or would you swap that for a yoyo existence in league one and two?

Looking back at the 70's and early 80's I think it was the absence of any appreciable spending on young player development, facilities and general infrastructure; under Mike Bamber just about everything went on revenue expenditure from day 1 and much of this was his personal wealth. I remember 10 year player contracts being talked about at the time and, if true, committing the club to such long term arrangements was a business error of some magnitude, even without the benefit of hindsight. The early death of Keith Wickenden was a loss but the Club was never really put on a stable financial footing; as such, it seems entirely reasonable to view those times as the start of the journey that led to Tongdean Lane.

Yeah i kind of included the time we were there in my thinking. To me it was all part and parcel of the same success. I think that your second part kind of ignores the ramifications of said success. To me success such as Leeds under O'leary (as one example) is tainted by the almighty **** up that followed as a result. Like i said it is about different definitions of success.

you ask if i would swap a league two trophy for fighting for promotion from the championship. My answer would be yes i would but not if it is going to put the club in jeopardy again. My idea for success of BHA, is that the club continues to exist at a level that is sustainable for us without putting our future in doubt. But that is just me :)

I was told by an ex player that the team that ran out at Wembley in 1983 was the highest paid team ever for the Cup Final due to the bonus in their contract agreed by Mike Bamber pre season as an incentive. Whether or not this was true only about 15-20 people would know for sure. Obviously that wouldnt stand now.

It has been mentioned on here before that Brighton had the 2 highest paid players in the entire league during the 82-83 season, Foster and Robinson, and they were both on 10 year contracts. Difficult to believe when you think of those in the Liverpool team at the time, but apparently true.

Yes, BF, I fully agree. !! Ideally the PL with sustainability. Yes, the club would then be sloshing about in money, and as long as it is managed wisely, but I think that TB would be OK on that front by and large.

Yes i agree TB seems to be good with money and has the clubs best interest at heart. i think we would do a Swansea rather than a Blackpool (a rather extreme example but you get the idea).

Now all we have to do ids get there.

Exciting times :)

Only dipped in and out this thread but Bloom is clearly worth a hell of a lot and, despite some of the posts on here saying otherwise, this can easily be kept pretty secret. There are countless offshore trusts, brass plate companies etc behind a lot unknown wealth in the UK.

What interests me is how and when he made it. The money he got for premierbet was substantial, but similar to Joe Lewis when he sold his bookies, not reflective of the wealth he has now. My guess is through undisclosed venture capital investments.

But a pure guess on my part!

Australian property development has played a big part. So when I need to buy out there I hope TB will find a good deal for me, being a long standing and regular customer of his for some years now.

His stated directorships in the UK are worth a few million. According to a wealth fund manager I know (and without wanting to sound too much like HB&B) "He's not a billionaire yet, but he'll be there within 18 months at this rate'.

He owns a lot of commercial property in the city of London too as I found out by accident recently.

I'd imagine his wealth is largely in assets than cold hard cash

In which case, how did he get in excess of £200m in cash to spend on the Albion?

Cashed in some of those assets ?

Yes, that would work. :)

I guess my view is if you can afford to drop almost quarter of a billion pounds into a venture from which a return is unlikely, he'd have to be worth we'll in excess of billion to do this.

We've had a new stadium
Can't get much TV money as we are a boring team not worth showing on tv
We have brought around 11 players
4 managers in something like 4 seasons
AND being apparently bidding about £7million for an Argentinian striker

We always bemoan clubs for getting sold to billionaires but how rich are we?

Boring????? You obviously missed the Ipswich game then? :wrong:
