Just how rich IS Bloom?

It's a good point and I do not know the answer. I would imagine though that lots of costs were brought forward into last year's accounts so that we used as much of last year's FFP allowance as possible, thus freeing up extra for this year. But it does not matter, the point that TB will not allow the club to fall foul of FFP stands.

But are the FFP rules really going on for long? Good interview with Wenger who basically said its all too flaky now and that (paraphrasing) they dont hold much weight

Maybe, maybe not. The point was made earlier that DK only saved the Albion with TB money. Now its TB was one of three...

In fact the point was clearly implied that in the club's hour of need Dick Knight simply used Tony Bloom's money to keep the club afloat. This is wrong. Dick Knight stuffed an eye-watering proportion of his own assets into the club from the outset and persuaded a number of other people to put large and not-so-large sums in too as the club waded through the Gillingham and Withdean years while spending a fortune trying to get permission for the stadium. To the best of my knowledge Tony Bloom was not among them - his huge and absolutely vital investment came later.

A star. Thx :). Lets leave the thread to the issue rather than personal abuse

Good. However accept Bloom is very very wealthy. I may know more than some less than many many others. I have an idea but likely it's way underestimating his true wealth.

You will never find out but the answer is clearly "rich enough to afford all that and keep the club afloat". If I was taking a guess I'd say far less than the Arabs but considerably richer than most Championship owners.

A better question is "is this a change in tactics" to which I would undoubtedly say yes. With FFP relaxed we are really going for it - a perfect storm of increased TV money in the Prem, FFP changing and 1901 deals about to run out mean we can't afford not to.

PS: The Football League FFP rule changes don't start until 16/17 ...

Thanks, that's makes sense to me and was what I understood. I don't get why people (well Ernest in this instance!) want to put down DK with cheap shots when he is a key part of our history

Please go on, explain more. DK took over in 1997, at what point are you saying TB took control?
He's pointing out that while dick knight was chairman he racked up millions in debts and had no money to pay this back...Thankfully bloom stepped in two save us and pay it off.
Both did there bit though even though I think knight was seriously dramatised on here at times as he didn't have a pot to piss in...well actually he put 1.5 million in his 10 or so years here and got that back from bloom.

Thanks. That is a huge amount and glad he got it back. TB will also if we can make the next step

If DK wasn't there what would have happened?
