the complete bodger is something of a one trick pony when it comes to Kuipers but fair's fair, he has earned the right to keep the shirt.................after all, every goalkeeper makes mistakes (Kuipers makes more than many if one were to be objective) but the key is how many goals they save and he did well last night.

I agree SG and I am a Kuipers fan as well. However, I think CB's idolisation of him is similar that to that of a bit of a weirdo a bit like the guy who shot John Lennon.

I thought that under normal rules if you have an utterly shit debut, the club should get rid immediately.

Strangely we didn't do that with the FDM, but that doesn't seem to apply to other players.

He did do ok after that and did what he is paid to do stop goals, a reasonable game but not sufficient for any normaL person, other than TCB to go into raptures.

So,

kuipers making saves = doing his job, nothing special
murray scoring goals = best player ever

?

You are right they both do what they are paid for very well and if they didnt they wouldnt be picked but I have never classed Murray as the best ever in fact I would place a number of goalscorers above him that have played for BHA but none that are at the club now.

"Best player ever" was hyperbole (since so many people talk about him being our best player since zamora).

But he is/was regarded by many on here to be our best (current) player, yet "he's only doing his job", something you never point out when people (including yourself) rave about him, yet you do for Kuipers.

I think that the problems with peoples reaction to Kuipers is brought about by the fact that he makes simple saves look difficult eg he punched a header/shot around the post and it looked like a good save to those at the top of the stands. My 2 sons were standing down the front in line with the post and they said the ball was going wide and it would have been easier for him to have caught it. Considering he punched the ball rather than pushed it around the post they may have been correct.

This is compounded by TCB continual adulation of him as if he was the greatest goalkeeper ever rather than a competatnt div 1 keeper. The honest truth is that I quite like Kuipers but can see his faults but I also like to wind TCB up.

I've seen a few keepers and, for me, Michel is the best, or rather, my fave of all the Albion keepers I have seen.

To become an Albion legend you don't have to be 'the best', we love these players because they give their all for the club. Look at the likes of the Johnny Crumplin. Absolute joke of a player and butt of the crowd but his sheer effort and determination over a number of years won the fans over. The 'genius' tag was, a joke but JC became a firm fav, but would never feature on a list of Albion's best players.

As for FDM, he is a great shot-stopper and not a bad keeper at all. Sure, he makes mistakes but in nearly every game he'll make a spectacular save. Some may say he should make them look simple. Nah, he get's me out of my seat every game..

The guy is Albion nuts. Many have tried to ship him out or replace him, he's still here. And then there's been the odd serious injury or two, he's still here.

Like any keeper, he, may cost as a game or two but he's won us far more games then he has lost. He's not perfect but it does annoy me when some seem determined to replace him and, for them, just about any untried replacement is better.

Time will take it's toll on the Big Man but if anyone wants the shirt then they have to proove that they are worthy.

Superb quote, now my sig!

However, do you really think that FDM doesn't have the best interests of the club at heart? That's how you're making it sound when you suggest that he deliberately over elaborates a save. I think you'd struggle to find an Albion player, with the exception of Gary Hart, that gives more of a f*** about the club than Michel.
