He could give you goosebumps when doing one of his 'Ghost' stories. The lights would go down and he would draw you into a terrifying monologue finishing with a LOL ending. I know its a bit weird but I could never take my eyes off off his MISSING FINGER!:eek:

Love everything I've seen of his, although I'm too young to have seen him live or anything like that.

I remember that sketch. Genius. I vaguely remember hiss tv show from when I was a young kid, and remember enjoying it, even if some of it I didn't understand. I remember my dad howling with laughter at some of his stuff.

Brings back great memories.

Don't think Allen would have messed up the joke as you seem to have done there.

No he didn't, he was always seated!

When I saw him at the Dome he stood for the whole gig, only using his chair to rest his drink on!

What about YOUR missing COAT ?

'Ernest' Once again you have managed to HiJAcK my PoST within a few minutes. I think we should enter Britain's Got Talent next year as a mind reading act. Or you could do the spilts and I will cover your modesty with my new ALbioN WiNTer COat! That is a definite winner in my view. :rave:

"Good night, and may YOUR God go with you"

And DRINKING whiskey whilst performing - Al Murray has a beer but barely touches a drop during his performance, Dave Allen tucked away a couple of glasses during an hour long show.

Dave was one of the greats....unlike some modern comedians who have to shout out loud.....Dave could put a joke across superbly calm yet hilariously.

Apparently, it was Ginger Ale with ice!

Just like most of that generation of comedians, if you're being honest, they weren't all that funny at the time. Dick Emery, Morecombe and Wise, Benny Hill, Tommy Cooper, Kenny Everett, the entire cast of Are You Being served, Dad's Army, Minder, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em etc etc. They were ALL a bit shit. You sort of watched them out of a sense of duty cos your mum and dad did. Mind you, they never seemed to laugh at them either. Maybe its cos we only had three channels and BBC2 was probably showing culture or something, so really we only had two

You do of course mean the space where his finger should have been.:)

Morecambe and Wise and Dave Allen were brilliant. No doubt about it. I would literally fall about on the floor in tears, they were so funny.

As to the rest, Kenny Everett was a disc jockey who made some TV shows, which I didn't find funny. Minder wasn't a comedy, it was more a witty drama. I was never particularly a fan of Dick Emery, Benny Hill or Tommy Cooper, though he could have his moments. I think all of these, in this paragraph, were lads' comedians. Jokes for the boys.

Never liked Dad's Army and Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em wasn't my cup of tea, either, because the main characters drove me nuts in frustration. Same as the lead in Sorry. But then, I absolutely cannot tolerate Ronnie Corbett.

Yes and no. never thought much of Dick Emery or Benny Hill. My dad's favourite comedian was Harry Worth, who never made me laugh once. I always thought that Some Mothers Do 'ave Em was totally overrated, as was Are You Being Served. Minder wasn't really a proper comedy programme - more a drama with comic overtones.

But dad's Army was absolutely classic, and still makes me laough out loud now, even when I know what is coming, because it was so well done. Tommy Cooper has always a favourite, and Morecambe and Wise I always genuinely looked forward to, though they were surpassed by The two Ronnies.

But then different things make different people laugh. I have never raised even a smile at Mr Bean, while liking a lot of other things Rowan Atkinson does. Why is Frankie Boyle funny? But I would watch anything by Eddie Izzard, Peter Kay, Lee mack or Micky Flanagen among others.
