Interesting call.... yet more evidence about the probity of this government....

with out a company name to verify the story its not evidence but heresay. at the time there were next to no ventilators available - thats what people in industry said, this claims otherwise needs investigation beyond a radio callin. at the time DoHSC bureaucracy meant equipment had to be to certain specs (major objection to Dyson and others), and on pre-approved lists, so equipment wasn't being bought initially on those grounds. specs, standards where later lifted/eased, opening up what could be procured and from who (and too far the other way?). its still bad if shoddy imports have been procured and the supply chain need to be checked, the other claim inferred. meanwhile Dyson contract was cancelled, despite whatever promises are supposed to have been made.

I agree completely that it was just an anonymous radio call, but interesting if true. I don't believe that the specifications were ever lifted/eased although the pre-approved lists were certainly lifted immediately. Besides which, I don't believe the caller was questioning the quality of the Imports, just the price (and the middlemen arranging the contracts).

Lifting the pre-approved lists was what allowed Dyson to break the embargo agreed by all the other companies and take up the front pages of the press for a few days of free marketing as a 'Great British Entrepreneur' coming to the rescue. Despite all the other companies (who actually produced the ventilators and engineered completely new Cpap machines) abiding by the press embargo. They also (quite tightly, it turned out) questioned Dyson's engineering abilities in this field and there were suggestions it was a simple marketing campaign run by Dyson on the back of a Pandemic. As we are now fully aware, Dyson failed to deliver a prototype which passed the specifications, which was why he didn't (or couldn't) fulfil the contract.

It's was all discussed here, with you https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showthread.php?379131-Dyson-Ventilator-Contract&p=9299222&viewfull=1#post9299222 on the Covid sub thread.

Presumably this data has been thoughtfully provided as an illustration of just the great British public have 'baked in' the flaws of the lying, corrupt and utter car-crash of a human being who happens to be our current PM.

No it’s been thoughtfully provided to demonstrate that the only people who are concerned are a few head wobblers on social media who if they were really honest would never vote Tory anyway [emoji6]

If it bothers you that much get yourself out on the streets and spread the word, you ain’t going to change anything in this echo chamber [emoji23][emoji106][emoji122]

Edit: By social media I mean all of it not just NSC [emoji106]

Edit Edit You’re a retired teacher right? Get out on the streets and start banging the drum, you’re only preaching to the converted in here [emoji6]

Thanks for your advice which I'm sure is very well intentioned. By a remarkable coincidence I am about the 'bang the drum' in a modest and very local sort of way. This is after first hand experience of how dreadful the local species of Tory politicians can be.

Good to hear, as they say, those that can do, those that can’t talk about it [emoji6]

Enjoy the afternoon leaflet dropping....

All true... so more accurately more 'hearsay' about the probity of the government that needs further investigation. There seems to be quite a lot of that.

This is a very good summary of Johnson's character as manifested in his rise to power and subsequent tenure as PM

https://www.theguardian.com/comment...rver-view-on-boris-johnson-fitness-for-office

That's a pretty accurate summary of the current situation for sure. However I'm sure it will be quickly out of date and will need extending faily soon when the next cock up/blunder/corruption leaks out.... to think I suggested on here that Theresa May was the worst Prime Minister in history about 2 years back....:dunce:

Integrity is one of the seven principles of public life, alongside selflessness, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

It would be fair to expect the prime minister, the most senior public office holder in the land, to set an example for other public servants. But with every week he is in No 10, it becomes clearer that Boris Johnson – a “vacuum of integrity”, according to former attorney general Dominic Grieve – is a man who comprehensively fails the Nolan test and who brings the office of prime minister into utter disrepute.

The whole article is just a massive list of Johnson's failings in every single principle of public office, and the effects and harm it is causing to every aspect of the UK and it's people.

And his fanatical following's response to all of this ?

Yeah, but he's blue and I'm blue, so that means I'm winning doesn't it :dunce:

It's really vital the misdeeds of this dreadful government are continually publicised; credit is due for the vaccine roll out but the overall assessment is that this is quite possibly the worst ever UK government for a range of reasons.

Maybe Cummings will add yet more evidence to support that opinion.

Of course tribal tories would really rather we all just look at current opinion polls; but that could well change.

I have just finished reading Alan Duncan's 'in the thick of it'. It's damning on Johnson and the government, and he knew him/them better than most!

Perhaps its a case of where you get your polls from, in this case most people think Johnson and the Tories are corrupt

The Vaccine rollout is a combination of several key elements working together including the thousands of volunteers but think the Governments only real action was to provide the vaccines minister with a blank cheque book to procure vaccines of any type and at any price!

The sleaze and corruption scandals are varied and so many that sooner or later one of them is going to edge in to the realms of criminality which will then need to be looked at by the police. That's when the whole rotten house of cards will collapse I would think. Until then Johnson has to keep spinning plates for all he's worth... oh and more flags please...

Here's some more polling information for you;

But senior Conservatives believe the big lead is largely the result of a “vaccine bounce” resulting from the successful rollout of the vaccination programme, and that it will be quickly lost unless Johnson can stop the rot of sleaze and other allegations of financial self-interest in his party and government.

Some 37% of voters describe Johnson as mostly or completely corrupt, compared with 31% who say he is clean and honest. Even more – 38% – say the Conservative party as a whole is corrupt with just 31% saying it is clean and honest.

This compares with just 16% who think that the Labour leader, Keir Starmer, is corrupt. Some 40% think he is clean and honest, while just 22% of people believe his party is corrupt.

Other senior members of the cabinet fare little better than Johnson. Some 33% believe the health secretary, Matt Hancock, is mostly or completely corrupt (Hancock has faced allegations that he has handed Covid contracts to friends and associates, and over his own business interests), while just 31% think he is clean and honest. Some 40% say the chancellor, Rishi Sunak, is clean and honest against 23% who believe he is corrupt.
