If 500 turn up there on Saturday without tickets, clutching £20 notes, they will get in, no question.

Posh are not going to turn down the £10,000 and nor would the police let them.

maybe because the " oh so passionate " fans are not that passionate about joining a membership scheme as most away games are pay on the gate - perhaps they are not super-fans - perhaps they have a life and only go to a few games a season - god only knows superphil god only knows

I agree with you, I dislike to formality of it all, I would love to be able to stroll up to the gate, hand over a few quid and walk in, but we have to accept, that is the past, not just for us, but for loads of other teams in the FL.

The Albion have pretentions of being a club in the higher part of the leagues, that means, in this day and age, that fans will have to become members, keep ticket stubbs, go to unfashionable matches midweek to qualify for the 'big' games, and occasionally be disappointed. It's the same for just about every Premier League side, and most of the top Championship sides.

I can't understand why it is such a repeated issue on this site. Imagine if you were an Arsenal fan (heaven forbid) who rarely went to games and didn't have a ST at the Emirates, and you just fancied going to watch them play Chelsea/United/City etc, well, it's tough, you simply are not going to get a ticket. At least with the Albion you can, and to ensure you are not disappointed, you can become a member for a paultry amount of money to help facilitate this.

I can see the time in the future when you simply won't be able to go and watch any football game without a ticket in the top leagues, I will hate that too, but such is life, it isn't going to change.

I disagree with this statement

Peterborough away has always been a 'biggie' for the fans, firm, and on Saturday matches played there over the the last 10 years or so, we have always taken LOADS to stand behind the goal

Attendance at Peterborough would have been big, even if we had only been mid-table, not top.

we took loads to the promotion game there when Hart did his leg in, maybe took 1,000 to Leeds in the Championship, Palace away obviously, Orient a couple of times. But other than that, we haven't really over 1,000 as a rule in recent seasons, say The Withdean years. I didnt say we never get over 1,000, all I said is that we haven't done it all that often (well not as much as is being made out by some)

Agreed.

We get over 1000 for a few games here and there but it is down to how the team are playing, and the last few years have not been that great.
hence recent attendances.

Whateva....I'm not fixated about precise numbers of away fans we take like some on NSC, just saying Peterborough is always one of the better away days of the season, (almost as much fun as Orient), we always take loads and you'd be a fool to miss this one. :rave::rave::rave:

Peterborough fans are being advised to get tickets in advance but tbh, I can't see Barry Fry turning down a £20 handed over at the turnstile.

This is from their website. It sounds as though Johnson is worried about our support. 'A sea of blue & white'

Blue And White Day At London Road
Posted on: Mon 25 Oct 2010

Peterborough United manager Gary Johnson is calling on the club's supporters to make London Road a sea of blue and white for the visit of table toppers Brighton and Hove Albion.

The club have branded the fixture as 'Blue and White Day' and are urging fans to wear club colours to ensure a 'cup-tie' atmosphere inside London Road.

Ahead of kick-off, blue and white balloons will be released from the centre circle and our giant 'wibbly wobbly' men will be in all corners of the stadium.

We will have face painters making sure the younger Posh supporters are catered for and as the teams emerge from the tunnel, we will have flag-wavers on hand.

However, to make this a success, we need YOU, the Posh fans, to make the stadium a sea of colour, so make sure you wear blue and white!

Boss Johnson said: 'The atmosphere at London Road has been very good this season and I am sure that a noisy home support will give us that extra edge.

'The supporters can be the 12th man and I will be getting into the spirit too, I will have my blue and white Posh scarf and it would be great to see everyone in blue and white for the day'.

Fans are advised to purchase tickets in advance for Saturday's match as a large crowd is expected. Tickets can be bought online at Peterborough United Online Ticketing
where there are no booking fees!

If this is the case, I think we need to get a few thousand red and black balloons to take: I have no doubt we will out play them, out sing them: we'd better out balloon them too!

Remember the flare at Peterborough the year we went up? Believe there was one at a cup game not too long before that also. I do hope the mystery flare barer makes a return!

Someone posted that an Ipswich fan was banned for a long time for lighting a flare at Posh last season I believe. Looks good, but worth a ban? ???

During the 76/77 season under Mullers, the local Pboro newspaper printed the headline, 'Town in fear Brigton are here'
Alan Mullery went balistic, claiming that although Brighton were taking the biggest away following in the division at that time, there was never any trouble and they were totally out of order to suggest The Albion were a troublesome bunch.
Anyway the old timers on here will tell you that it was mayhem up there with 60 or more Brighton fans arrested during the course of the day. A certain 'Well known' Brighton boozer even ran a coach back up there a week later so everyone could appear in court from the related charges.

Mullery declined to comment after the match.

All the club need to do is tell Peterborough how many tickets have been sold by midday on Friday and then send the remainder back in time for them to be sold on the gate the following day.

can't buy them on the website, have they taken them down to count how many they have left? I can't see us selling out the 3,000 in advance already...

According to Insider on ask the club, over 2500 sold at close of play last night.

I suspect the club will sell close to the 3000.

Although Insiders advice is to be in advance (naturally) to guarantee a ticket, his language did vry much suggest there would be POTG available.

If this is so, we would be looking for a similar turnout to Charlton - c3300? Which would be awesome!

I was living in East Anglia at that time and I know that Brighton Supporters were then regarded by Cambridgeshire and Suffolk police as real troublemakers. The Peterborough match confirmed their worst fears and that reputation still hangs on in parts of East Anglia. I keep telling my friends up there that we are a load of softies now but they won't have it.
