The first half we domminated kept the the ball down and passed it about, goal conceded was sloppy, Richards given to much time and kuipers beaten at near post. Secod half we went deeper and hit more long balls but Walsall looked rusty and rarely threatened. Right at the death they almost stole a point but for a great save/ block !

New boys looked very good additions and rarely put a foot wrong. On a better playing surface I think we would have won by more as a few times the ball got held up or stuck when it looked to be opening up. Overall good three points against a side who are no mugs

But more importantly has your lad come back tired but happy for a slap up tea of bangers and mash and is hooked for life as a Seagull? This is a special day for you both - keep the programme, ticket stubs and memories.
I remember taking my eldest to the Goldstone age 3 in 1996 and we came from behind to beat Chester. He burst into tears when he saw his dad turn into a raving, hollering monster at George Parris's winning goal.

Spanish bloke was very good after a somewhat shaky first ten minutes. He isn't going to be the best defender in the league, but he is a real asset going forward. He made a few effortless flicks and brilliant balls. He could yet be the flair master the fans have long wished for.

I though Virgo and Elphick were OK, not brilliant, but communication has vastly imporved since I last saw the team play (at the start of the season). I thought we passed the ball well, but reverted to type and started to panic whenever Walsall had the ball.

I was worried about Kuipers at the end - I hope he is fit for Villa.

Painter was good - almost stopped the goal, but just poked it into the roof of the net, rather than knocking it over.
All in all, lot of improvements, but still a way to go.

Oh, and I want to be Clayton Ince

I think so, the only thing that worries me is that he does look rusty in defence. As long as we are attacking, he will be great.

I thought he was solid considering has not played for half a season, first touch he hit long then after that everything went to feet.

My little boy loved it, specially after the match he got to wind his Walsall freind up a treat in the car, he now wants to go to the villa match so I shall blag him a ticket

He didn't put a foot wrong. Mainly because he was never close enough to.

As for player of the season, as ludicrous and unjust as it is, who knows, you could be right. Amongst our support we've got a lot of flids who appreciate a lot of running and nothing else. How else do you explain Whing and Elphick winning the award ahead of Forster, who has been by so far our best player of the last two years?

For me, Forster should have won it in 07/08, he should have won it in 08/09 and based on the first half of this season he should have it wrapped up this year too.

Again though you can't judge a player to be the best in the squad just because of the amount of goals he scores. I know Forster does other things, but in my opinion not enough to warrant player of the season. Also I think what goes against Forster is that everybody EXPECTS it from him, not that that should affect his ability to get player of the season.

You're not wrong about Forster.

Bollocks, I agree he should have won it the past two years and has probably been our most consistent player this season. He is the dream ticket for any team in this division and we are very lucky to have him.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. What I was trying to say is that just because a player ends up top scorer it doesn't automatically mean he should be given player of the season. Forster is so much more than just a goalscorer though so if he did get player of the year it wouldn't be just because he has scored the most goals it would be because of his all round play.

I agree we are very lucky to have him and he will be sorely missed when he retires.

Thats fair enough, but as TCB said, thats what makes him probably our best player. I agree the expectation levels may have made it a bit harder for him, but even then, the fact he has not won the award since being here is mystifying.
