Am now at home, the ladies of he family have bought a tree....I get home to find they have sawn too much off the base so it now wont stand properly

I have put in the wedges, so it looks straightish - on goes the lights - it now leans westward - changed the wedges, it now leans eastwards

I asked that too, considering our small child likes to eat an manner of things, but I was informed that Christmas "Is just not the same" without a real tree!!


(I'm the one that vacuums up all the needles every few days, tops up the water, and then has to clean out the car after we have to take it to the tip for recycling, and the car is full of needles too!!)

Try putting a bandage on it.

cant compensate the trunk being sawn off to short though

I've never known that to be true - my tree has fresh water every day, and year in year out it drops needles...

real trees are always troublesome - like the time my cousin turned out to be alergic to the one my grandparents had

What worries me about real trees is that they are all farmed aren't they? So someone has chopped down a load of old forest, or over run a load of farm ground to produce things which we stand in our front room for two weeks then chuck out?

Edited to add : Not to mention the pollution trucking them up and down the countries...

can only go on personal experience and every other day or 3rd day has worked for me . Don't think I've ever had a needle dropped. In fact I used the same tree 3 years on the trot direct from the garden a few years back.

I'd say they are fairly neutral, especially if recycled or shredded yourself and used as mulch, compared to the energy taken to make an artificial one that will end up in land fill in a few years.
