Made redundant in December - now got a place at uni starting in Sept doing something i've always wanted to do (at 37 i expect i'll be the oldest there).

Keep your chin up - something will turn up and it's nearly always for the better.

That's a pisser dude, hope you find something better. Chin up, life has a strange way of kicking you in the bollocks and then giving you a pat on the back.

Bad luck mate, it happened to me just before christmas. Remember not to burn any bridges because I got taken back into another department, and on better money, about a week before I was due to go. I'm sure it had alot to do with the fact that when I had the initial meeting with HR and one of the directors to tell me my fate, I remained very upbeat and just said that I understood why they had to do it and that there were no hard feelings.
There's plenty of jobs to be had out there, just knock up 2 or 3 different CVs and start sending them out, i'm sure it won't take long to get something

He's not wrong - been there myself and came out of it in a better position in the end. Sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward. It could be a chance to try something different which you might enjoy more.

Most important thing though is to keep your sanity whilst job hunting. Meet up with friends or former colleagues regularly to keep contact with the real world rather than sit inside for days on end looking at job sites. Also, try and get something to relieve the boredom. I used horse racing but as it's summertime you might want to watch some cricket.

Good luck and don't get too downhearted.

You're not alone.

Got made redundant a few years back myself, shortly before xmas with a second baby due the following Feb. Know what you mean about feeling sick.

Everyone said it would work itself out and it did. Don't let it get you down, things will fall into place (apart from football this season obviously).

Was made redundant from NTL about 5 years ago, to be honest turned out to be the best thing that could have happened - spent 3 months in Germany having alaugh, came back meet my noww fiance when i itherwise would have been at work, now living together with out two year old son - funny how things work out.

I am one of the luckier ones, and have been in the same job for 26 years

Now what was that line in 'Papillon' when he's standing in front of the judge during the hallucinatory scene: "I sentence you to a wasted life!"

Time for a Reggie Perrin jimmy, clothes left on the beach, one way ticket to Lima in pocket....

;)
