A few observations from me after watching on the telly:

- Liam Bridcutt should be playing in the Premiership.
- How did Romain Vincelot only cost £100k?
- After Steve Cook's performance we are fine at the back now.
- Vicente was very impressive, and the excellent Buckley and Noone will learn a lot from him.
- Hate to say it, but Lua Lua is a shadow of the player we had last season.

For me, Vincelot HAS to play. He looks so composed on the ball and a cut above.

In which case he must have been world class last season. Someone near me said exactly the same about him being a shadow of his former self and they are wrong too. He's hardly been on the pitch so far - tonight he got a few free kicks, beat his man on a number of occasions, looked up for it etc, what are you expecting? Lua Lua will do just fine this season.

Best moment of the night for me came from my two mates sitting watching it with me, neither had ever watched Brighton before but felt that we were a bit overawed in the first half but thought we were really impressive in the second and would not look out of place in the Premier League, both said they would start looking out for Brightons results from now on

Vincelot had an outstanding agme in every way EXCEPT his positioning and this is where he was found out. He doesnt have the positional sense for playing at left back. Everything else he did was superb. Part of the reason he looked so good was the number of last ditch tackles he had to make in an attempt to make up for his poor positioning. There was a great interception he made in the first half on the RIGHT SIDE of the pitch... he had tracked a player right across the pitch, and dragged the whole defence left because he was out of position. A great player but could be a liability at left back and would be unfair to waste the player in that position.

Poor isnt the would he was utter crap in the first half as left back every1 close by ended up having to do his job !!!

before people say im not right, im in the north stand on the left side so had prob the best view of him and he really was poor, dont get me wrong if he played on right side im sure he would be very good like he has been but left back its a no no

Eloquent.

and complete, utter TOSH. Vince was damn good.

Passing judgment on the Albion players' performance is fair enough - but you have to take into account the opposition. They won't be playing an on-fire Bellamy and Suarez every week, thank God. Together with Maxi and Kuyt, it was all too much, and great credit for making Liverpool sweat when it could have been all over by half-time.

I thought Cook looked all at sea for the first 40 minutes, but for the above reason I'd cut him some slack. However Vincelot can seemingly do a job in a number of positions, and looks a great signing.

And I know he's rusty, lacks match fitness etc but Vicente looks a hell of a player. You can always tell, the way they find space, receive the ball, already looking up, picking passes, drifting away from tackles. Could prove the best player we've had for a long time.

Dagenham must be gutted they only got 100k for Vincelot but without sounding patronising that's a lot of money to a club like them. Great player.

I thought he did well when he came on. Don't you think that some of the difference you see could be that last season we played Division 1 teams and last night we were up against a Premier League side and yet he still caused them some problems

He did ok but he is better than that. Not as direct as he used to be from what I've seen so far this season. Far more hesitant.
