A question; Youngest Potting has received a call up for this. I know that parking is "challenging" in Lewes but where is the best place to park?
When it’s busy I tend to use the car park down by the river behind the fire station (bottom of North St). Doesn’t seem to get as full as some of the others. Less than 10 min stroll up to the court.

Assuming parking expenses are paid then the station car park generally has spaces and is close to the court. Not particularly cheap for all day though. Needlemakers is even closer, gets busy later in the day but a pre-9.30 arrival shouldn't have any issue.

Do the call-up papers not advise on where best to park? When I got my juror pack a couple of years back, it contained quite extensive info on how to get to Brighton/Hove courts. Pretty sure parking advice was included
I've just been called up.
A bit of a pain in the arse, really, because the court is in Hove and I live in Findon. I do a lot of the school runs for my son and the lad next door. Being unavailable for 10 days (or possibly more) makes things awkward there. Crossing over with that is getting to Hove from Findon. We share a car so if I used that to either drive to Hove or to a station to train it over, then the car isn't available for Mrs B to do the school runs I'm not around to do. Then the dog will end up being at home too long each day and needing a lunchtime walk.
And to top it all, the 10 days - I appreciate it can be more or less - includes the date of the away Europa League game.
It looks like you can defer but have to give some other dates you can definitely make.
One question related to the "lots of sitting around" bit, can you take and use a laptop, so at least you can be doing something productive to fill time?

Yes - I did (didn't really need it in the end though as was pretty much fully occupied anyway). I deferred my initial call and gave some dates that I could do - they replied within days calling me on one of those dates.
I've just read it again - you have to explain your reason(s) if you ask for another date.
What reason did you give for the deferral?
'Immovable foreign travel'
Ironically, foreign travel (business trip already booked)
A 'booked holiday' is an allowable reason, so you may have booked March 7th off already

If to defer, I assume that's to be available for another case and not the one youre currently scheduled to be a juror on?
If that's the case, as much as its still a Ball ache, could you volunteer availability during school summer holiday, when school run and Albion fixtures aren't an issue?
This is right - they definitely don't just cover the cost of parking anywhere but instead stipulate the cheaper places in town.
I think this is one of the car parks stipulated (not that anyone probably cares about this any more
)

They will need 24 willing participants.
If they get say 15, the reasons for deferral will be examined and those with the weakest encouraged to 'amend their plans'.
Then the draw, 12 + 2 subs, the remaining 10 wander off home and that's it.
Most likely the two subs will get their marching orders the following day.
When I did it those not selected simply stayed for the next draw.............may well be more than one case starting on the day
