I've been called for jury service, if it wasn't bad enough that the most I can claim as loss of earnings is £36 ......I also have to go to bloody Croydon !!!
Seriously has anyone else been called, what can I expect ?
I'm guessing that the case I'll be sitting on will be something to do with caravans !:lolol:

I've got out of jury service twice. First time, my boss sent a letter stating I was an integral part of a running project and that I couldn't be released from work. The second time I had a pre-booked holiday for the period I was due to do it.

I don't really mind doing it. My company are pretty good and will pay me even though I'm not at work & I guess I could get an interesting case....but why couldn't they have sent me to Lewes or Hove !!!!

Call them up and say that you hope its not a black person in the dock otherwise they're going down regardless of the facts of the case.

I've done it and it wasn't too boring to be honest, lots of sitting around though so buy a newspaper/ magazines and a book.

I did it at the Old Bailey (which was quite surreal) during the 1994 WC. We reached a not guilty verdict in a case which was far from straight forward and oddly enough I've never been called again.

Just because you've been called up doesn't mean you'll be sitting in court on the jury. It depends on if you get picked. You may be sitting around doing nothing for the whole 2 weeks.
But then again, you may even get to sit through 2 or 3 cases.

I did it at Hove this year. I deferred it once but was called again in February. It was ok. A lot of sitting around but I did sit on 3 trials, which was quite interesting. The worst thing about it was some of the morons I was on the jury with.

Which makes it even more important to keep your nose clean and never end up in court...how would you fancy going down because some randomly chosen jury don't like the look of you?
