Lefties appear to have missed that Insurance Premium Tax will rise from 8% to 9.5%.

"Dividend tax credit will be replaced with a tax free allowance of £5000... with additional higher rates of tax for those taking their income from dividends"
the amount of money available to the student, when the need it to support their studies, will be higher. Only if they go on to earn a decent wage, will they be expected to pay some of it back. Seems fair?
Do you have to be a 'leftie' to be annoyed with that?

"A green paper on the possibility of pensions, more like an ISA, based on taxed income and tax free at the point of withdrawal..."

Discouraging the widening of participation in higher education narrows the talent pool.
If this will help extract more tax from people who run one-man-band businesses and then pay themselves low incomes but higher 'tax efficient' dividends, then this has to be a good thing.
I don't know if it does mean that though. Anyone?

any details on the higher rates?
Without penalty? Education isn't a life choice, it's an investment, and converting a grant to a loan makes children think of it as such.
