i really dont understand it either as he was always very one dimensional when i used to watch him at Leeds, it makes you wonder if they have ever actually watched him play, not that they would have had much chance considering he has only had a handful of matches in the last 20 months and not scored any goals since leaving Leeds.

he's a poor mans Ashley Barnes. He'd be a useless signing.

When we played at Elland Road a couple of seasons ago I thought he was one of the best players on the pitch. Amazing how different perspectives can be.

So you looked at his stats and took the negative, rather than even mention the 39 goals in 67 appearances for AZ Alkmaar in between his loan spell at Hull and going to Sunderland - I just find that odd.
Why, I looked at a relevant comparison, ie this country, this would be appropriate when making assessments on his viability as a member of our team in the Championship, wouldn't you say?

So you thought 2 stints in the Premier League, one as a teenager for a relegated side, the other in a side in disarray after sacking a manager and being at the bottom of the table for much of the season , was the only stat relevant for presentation, and not 39 goals in 67 appearances for a top flight dutch side, or 23 international goals in 71 appearances?

You don't believe those other stats were appropriate!?

Even if you don't, you didn't even think they were worth mentioning?

He's an odd one. Repeatedly looks awful for Sunderland but looked unbelievable for the USA at the World Cup.

If he came, he may be a very astute signing. In the US he's rated very highly as a striker with excellent link up play.

Matches Played-1
Minutes Played-23
Goals Scored-0
Solo runs into area-0
Assists- 0

Nice one.

Just an American version of O'Grady - might get 1 between them.

This was his write up for 2012-13 season in the Dutch first division:

In the opening game of the new Eredivisie campaign, Altidore scored a quick brace as AZ drew 2–2 with reigning champions Ajax on August 12, 2012. Altidore continued his impressive start to the league campaign, netting another brace in the club's 3–1 victory over SC Heracles on the second weekend of the season. Following the international break, Altidore scored the first hat-trick of his club career on September 16, helping AZ to a 4–0 defeat of Roda JC.

Altidore powered his team to just their fourth victory in 17 games, and their first since October 28, netting a brace in a 2–1 defeat of PEC Zwolle on December 15. In the first game of 2013, Altidore hammered home 3 for the hat-trick against Vitesse.

On April 14, Altidore netted his third hat-trick of the season in a 6–0 victory over FC Utrecht.[40] On 9 May, he scored the winning goal against PSV in the KNVB Cup final, helping AZ to lift the Dutch Cup for the first time in 31 years. Subsequently Altidore became the first-ever American to be named in De Telegraaf's "Team of the Season" after finishing with 23 goals in the Eredivisie and 8 in the KNVB Cup.

31 goals in league and cup that season. What a run of the mill signing he'd be for us…..

The goals have to be repeated because there are not very many of them.

Who will be the NSC spokesperson to ring Sami and tell him to forget this one, seems he is shit and we don't want him? Sami DOES need to know.

I have no idea how good or bad he is but NSC has convinced me that he is not for us

He's found it tough in the Premier League, but he's been in two poor squads and he's only 24. If he did sign for us, you'd be mad not to be delighted, I suspect he'd seriously tear up the championship. Anyway, a few highlights from his AZ goals…

You mean, the statistic based assessment by certain posters has dampened your enthusiasm already!? Why do you think we need a scouting network when we have wikipedia and youtube!?

Altidore will come good. I would be absolutely delighted if he got that chance to do it with us. Great signing, if any substance to it.
