What do we know about this. He seems to have come back injured and largely missed preseason? From what Hughton has just said he’s definitely not ready to play right now. Is this going to turn out to be a long term injury?

ChaileyJem will be along soon to put everyone right, tell us that we have been kept informed throughout and need to go sit in the corner :dunce:

If he was injured whilst at the WC, why didn't he come home for treatment?

Because maybe it was a niggle and got worse. If he wasn’t injured he’d be on the bench and pretty much match fit.

Refer to many examples of players who lasted the same stage or further and are playing (Eriksen, Jones, hazard, rashford)

Won’t be back until Fulham game is my guess.

So this is what we know.

World Cup: He returned from his holiday/World Cup on July 23rd. (all the players had a holiday afaik - he went back to Colombia for a bit. ) He did the media stuff , shirt stuff on July 26th but hasn't taken part in pre-season matches.
Injury
the reporting on this has been a bit thin with Hughton's quote yesterday "not quite there" (for Watford ? for training ? ) being as much as we have. Naylor also reported on Thursday that it was a "niggle" and "minor".

The strapping/ His Insta: He hasn't got strapping on his knee currently (as evidenced by posts on Insta over the last week), but there have been sightings , only 1 i think, that he did at some point ( a post on here saying he was seen in Brighton - presumably in shorts !) but this was at least a fortnight ago and was a secondhand rumour. No pix have emerged anyway.
He did post images doing leg strengthening exercises on his Insta in Lancing last Sunday. (no strapping), doesn't look like he's in actual training and he was in the dressing room posting pictures at Nantes only a few days ago. And he watched or was in the crowd for several of the other pre-season friendlies so any of the more lurid rumours that he's "unhappy" with the club are clearly nonsense).

TLDR: So the sensible conclusion can only be the mundane; its a minor niggle, they are managing him carefully and he'll be back in a week or two.

Well no, that's not all we have, because we also have this:

Where are we:

Post Wimbledon/Charlton

Locadia (groin) - Hughton: "It's good news. He felt his groin on Saturday and you can think the worst. It's minor but he will still probably be a couple of weeks.". So probably thats the remaining pre-season friendlies he will miss although i guess Hughton trying to get him fit for Nantes.

Andone (groin) - is now due back for Nice friendly next Tuesday.

Other injuries - all cleared up. Duffy now back from his op...

Report in Argus this morning that Izquierdo and Jahanbaksch will also play in the Nice friendly. (but not Birmingham).

So post Wimbledon/Charlton we were being told he wasn't injured.

He's going to be a big miss if he is out for a while. He was a major factor in most of our wins last season.

Yes. The Argus reported on July 27th that he was " likely to play a part " v Nice. But he didn't.

It’s definitely an injury. Probably why he didn’t feature at all in the last two World Cup matches.

Chance for March to step up.
