If you throw a punch which misses, you still get sent off if it's spotted. Violent conduct applies in intent as well as actual contact.

yep blatant penalty, he was upset and got overheated and could'nt handle it...so he lashed out at that player. If he made a solid contact he would've broken his leg or done serious damage, Deserved to go and I think Coppell may even drop him after his 3 match ban so that he learns his lessson, or ducts his wages.

Personally I think challenges like that have NO place in football and I agree with Claridge (awaits flames) that he...indeed ANY player doing that should be banned for the season, remember if he made solid contact the player could've been injured for life and had to quit football...a 3 or even 5 or even 10 match ban does'nt add up to that. (neither does a season but you know what I mean)
