We've been lucky with injuries all summer, something like this was always likely to happen.

I think picking Anderson would be the correct move because it keeps that bowling attack balance.

The doomsday scenario is Australia win the toss and bat first on a good wicket, Harmison gets injured on the first morning. If we pick Anderson we've still got 3 good pace bowlers plus Bell and the spin of Giles and Vaughan. If we don't we're down to 2 decent pace bowlers and that can only mean chasing a massive total.

If they think it will swing, go for Anderson, if not, go for Collingwood.

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
im waiting for the Aussie team to be announced, that will be far more interesting.

I can see McGrath and the other Spinner Mcgill playing.
They need to take 20 wickets.

You're dead right there, Pavilionaire. If Australia win the toss, I can see them hitting a big score, especially as Langer and Hayden are both due big scores. In any case, they are crucial wickets. Losing Jones could be a bad, bad blow.

I'm off to Friday's play. Interruptions expected with showers on both Thursday (late) and Friday (early) with possibility of rain over the weekend as well.

Of all the pitches we need 5 on The Oval is it. We simply have to go for Anderson. The problem is I don't think Vaughan will trust him to bowl many overs. Its only been this series that he has trusted Jones.

Of course with Anderson in the side the tail will be lengthened.

Lets not forget that Australia had to cope with losing McGrath for 2 tests, possibly 1 more. We just have to get on with it. We can still win this test. We bowled out Australia for 380 with only 4 bowlers. I think Gilo has to step up more and bowl better.

I'm going Saturday. Really wouldn't mind a bit of rain!

The toss will be vital. I fear the worst as we have had our choice (ie bat first) in the last three tests.

I'd go for Anderson as I'd expect him to pick up some wickets, but a bit of drizzle and winning the toss might be the way forward.

But our strength has been our ability to take 20 wickets in a game and that has been done with a 5 prong attack. Going to 4 and a bit is a bad move.

I really think Caddick should have been drafted in as cover for this game.

But we don't need to take 20 wickets here.

bringing collingwood in seemsa sensible move - persoanlly i would have picked tremlett or kirtley for bowling but i suspect they want as much batting resource as they can muster so that the tail is as short as possible (ie Harmison)

I do see all that. But our natural game over the last couple of years has been attacking, aggressive cricket and with our bowling attack getting teams out. I am not sure shifting to a more defensive game is in this sides character.
