Douglas isn't a bad player, and probably is still up to Championship standard, but we just happen to be blessed with an outstanding load of central midfield options at the moment.

No offence to him, but if we had everyone fully fit, as it stands he'd be fortunate to make the Albion bench.

On the assumption Bridcutt and Dicker stay on, the only way I think Douglas would be a useful addition to the squad is if he came in as a straight replacement for Kish, should he hang up his boots.

Exactly this, I think Kish and Nav wont be around next season so Douglas to boost the squad isnt total guesswork..

Not sure he'd be that useful this season let alone next? No better than what we have currently so better to keep Bridcutt and then either sign a great starter or keep one of Navs or Kish as back-up. Plenty of CM options to add to those holding players too.

Defoe is on the outs with Harry and the Yids in general - they are not happy with him at all.
That might keep our other players interested too.

Bobby Zamora might be a pipedream to some.... but we would have a good chance, as he's already expressed.

I wouldn't go overboard regarding signings - I really can't see Poyet making wholesale changes to his squad with new names all over the place. We have fringe players like Adgestein who must be there for something other than winning reserve matches.

There's also strong rumours like about the Bristol Rovers lad which sounded tangible. With Gus you can pretty-much know he's not bringing in a list of new faces for every position. For him to start gaining a reputation for using players to gain immediate success then dumping them, we wouldn't get people rushing to sign long contracts at Brighton.

I agree, though I think 3 or 4 is well within reason to boost the squad without it representing wholesale changes, perhaps a couple more. Certainly we need good full back cover... perhaps a class act central defender to bolster the candidates there? Certainly a tasty striker. Certainly Kazenga Lua-Lua. Perhaps a class midfielder for more options there. I don't think that would be wholesale, but would definitely represent some moving and shaking.

Re. the attacking midfielder principle - I see that covered by Lua-Lua and pushing Bennett inside. Perhaps this is a big IF we can sign him.

I'm sure Gus has previously said he will look for about 6 or 7 new players. Sounds about right. Blend the new ones with the good ones we already have, let go the players who don't make the first team now, let alone in the Championship. I'd be very surprised if we spent big though.

I was quite impressed with him last season, less so this. Lose Nav and Kish and we'll be a bit short in central midfield....If anyone can get the best out of him Poyet can, Douglas could be our new Danny Wilson. He'll need a good pre-season I suspect.

I think some people are dismissing this a bit too quickly. Douglas has been an excellent player in years gone by, granted I havent seen much of him this season, but I think it's a touch arrogant to just dismiss him and think we're better than him! It's all very well to say he's playing for a struggling League One side but so was Glenn Murray until recently!

Wasn't so long ago that Johnnie Jackson from Charlton was a 'done deal' according to NSC. I somehow doubt either is the sort of signing Gus will make, he's said he wants an improvement on the current squad with what he brings in, not backup. Thought the idea is to strengthen the quality of players, not quantity.
