Chelsea have agreed to sign Argentinean striker Jonathan Calleri from Boca Juniors, according to reports.
Calleri, 22, has been in fine form for Boca this season, scoring 21 goals and providing 11 assists in all competitions.
Chelsea are in the market for a new striker with their current forwards managing just four goals between this campaign.
And according to L’Equipe, reinforcements are set to arrive in the form of Calleri, with the Blues reportedly striking a deal worth £6.2million to sign the player in January.
It’s also claimed that Chelsea will loan the player when arrives, although they may be forced to hand him a starting berth if their striking woes persist.
Jose Mourinho is likely to move for a number of targets in the new year, but it appears that Calleri will be the club’s first signing in the winter window.

Why would Chelsea offer 14 million, when Boca only demanded 10 million from us?

They've probably made that figure up.

Is he now... Source?

Sorry, was in a rush...

Also being reported in UK press now, yet think this may be closer to the reality of it:-

http://canchallena.lanacion.com.ar/1847109-un-n-9-especial-chelsea-pagaria-600000-dolares-por-cada-gol-de-calleri

Google translates it poorly as:-

Jonathan Calleri not respond to the stereotype of the historic No. 9 Boca, for those who break the fans hands and do not stop cheering. It has very good condition and also provides sacrifice, assists in recovery, never stop fighting; It has personality to withstand blows from rival stations and also for daring to make a goal of truant in the very Bombonera. But from the characteristics, is not that powerful center forward, those looking to make the goal anyway. Sometimes it feels that not all goals Calleri are worth one. At times it looks more elegant efficiency. They are styles. But maybe that's why it was never an undisputed player. You will be assessed from the leadership and the coaching staff, also from the podium, although supporters generated more feeling with the No. 9 Martin Palermo style, Gabriel Batistuta and Carlos Tevez.

However, he not only Calleri pleased to win the title with Boca in the last match of Primera Division and the Copa Argentina being the scorer of the team, but also is now let into the coffers of the club about ten million tax-free dollars. It is that an investment group linked to Chelsea, England, is willing to pay 14 million dollars for the striker to take him now. The yield to another institution of the Premier League to be foguee, but it would take over the economic rights.

If it is spun fine, the English club would pay more than six hundred thousand dollars for each goal scored by Calleri with blue shirt and gold (US $ 608,695). It is that Jonathan is not a scorer of race as it could be Guido Carrillo or Emmanuel Gigliotti, style explodes over the technical capacity that smell. He made few easy goals, those that resolve more from instinct than from something more elaborate. The average Calleri goal is 0.37 goals per game. In that sense, Daniel Osvaldo, its future replacement (yesterday its representative accelerated efforts to dissociate it from Porto and bring it back to Boca) has a higher efficiency (0.44), but played fewer games in the Ribera made 7 goals in 16 games.

No. 9 among the blue shirt and gold stood since 2000, Calleri shares the 5th place in the table with Gigliotti (both with 23 celebrations) behind Palermo (the top scorer in the history 236), Tevez (47), Antonio Barijho (45) and Lucas Viatri (31).

It is clear that the property does not better or worse than the front. In the last 15 years managed to be champion with Boca No. 9 more technical and Calleri, Viatri, Lucho Figueroa, Alfredo Moreno and Dario Cvitanich; by contrast, he paid from Gigliotti efficiency, but could not give a victory lap. And Santiago Silva, who looked like a centroatacante tailored to Boca, just won a tournament: the Argentina Cup 2012. Many ended up overshadowed by Palermo, others for poor performance.

There are no formulas that guarantee success, that's clear. The negotiations being carried out by Daniel Angelici in person. And while every decision on the future depends on the choices to be made in Boca on 6 December, both Angelici as Rodolfo Arruabarrena are already planning. And they see that they will be difficult to retain Calleri at such a figure, and are analyzing reinforcements for that position to face the Copa Libertadores 2016. This is an old acquaintance (Daniel Osvaldo) and a bet: Dario Benedetto, 25, Arsenal emerged and is now playing for America of Mexico, which has scored 16 goals in 29 games (0.55 average).

Boca tested in the last 15 years with strange bets for the post of 9 as the Japanese Naohiro Takahara or Hungarian Robert Waltner, also with established names as Roberto Pampa Sosa and Abel Balbo, although among the four just made a goal: he scored Takahara, Lanus.

Everything indicates that between Boca and Chelsea finish closing the deal and Calleri will continue his career in England. It will be the most important step in his career, he got more elegance and technical power.

jt.

So what conclusion can we draw ?

Albion have been/are still interested in this striker.

There is a possibility that clubs currently of higher standing may also be.

He hasn't signed for anyone yet (that we know of)

That's where we were 1300 posts ago.
