[Man of Harveys]

Jonas Sela (* 23. Januar 1984 in Bensberg) ist ein deutscher Fußball-Torwart.

Nach mehreren Stationen im Bergischen Land, bei Fortuna Köln sowie in der Juniorenabteilung des 1. FC Köln wechselte Jonas Sela in der Sommerpause 2005 zum Oberligisten 1. FSV Mainz 05 II. Im Mainzer Profikader war Sela zunächst als dritter Torwart vorgesehen.

Nach der schweren Verletzung des 05-Stammtorwarts Dimo Wache zu Beginn der Rückrunde 2005/06 rückte Sela zum Ersatztorwart der Bundesligamannschaft auf. Als sich am drittletzten Spieltag jener Saison auch der nächste Torwart, Christian Wetklo verletzte, kam Sela zu seinem siebenminütigen Erstligadebüt.

In der Saison 2006/07 spielte Sela im Oberligateam der Nullfünfer und konnte seinen sieben Bundesligaminuten keine weiteren hinzufügen, da er numher bei den Profis nur noch 4. Torwart war. Sein 2007 auslaufender Vertrag wurde von den Mainzern nicht verlängert.

He’s a German goalkeeper, played at a number of clubs in the Bergisch Land, youth team for Fortuna and 1. FC Cologne, went to top Bundesliga club Mainz in the summer of ’05, and was expected to be third choice keeper there.

After a bad injury to the regular keeper Dimo Wache at the start of the return leg of fixtures (i.e. Jan/Feb), he became the main replacement keeper, then Christian Wetklo got injured during the third last game of the season, so he made a seven minute BL debut.

In 2006-7, he played in their Oberliga side (basically, the reserves) and couldn’t add to his seven minutes as he was by now fourth choice with the professional side. His contract which runs out in 2007 was not extended by the Mainzers.

Does anyone know if Mainz 05 (who released him) are any good? German 2nd division apparently.

They finished 3rd from bottom of Top Div last year

........................and got relegated.

But as he only played in the first team for a total of 7 minutes and they later relegated him to 4th choice keeper it clearly wasnt his fault
