Sorry to be a pedant but you're both wrong. Batman first appeared in "DC Comics" in March 1939. Robin made his debut in DC Comics a year later in April 1940.

However Batman first appeared in his own dedicated comic, "Batman" in April 1940, in issue #1 of which Joker also made his debut.

Yup. As this was a thread about Joker I was giving the Joker's origin, not Batman's.

Might also be interesting to know he was somewhat based on Conrad Veidt's character in The Man Who Laughed a 1928 silent movie.

I thought it was excellent

Pointless thought- given in the film he’s about 40/45 and Bruce Wayne 10 - wouldnt that make Joker reaaaaaally old when Batman came on the scene.
