Sounds like a case of avian dogging. I hope a thrush is not involved.
Maybe a pair of great tits though.
If they were near the coast somewhere, it could be (to stop beating about the bush) a shag.

Since we're on the subject of wildlife, I had to call the RSPCA today and said, "I've just found a suitcase in the woods containing a fox and four cubs."
"That's terrible," she replied. "Are they moving?"
"I'm not sure, to be honest," I said, "But that would explain the suitcase."
I take your point but how much would a family of foxes need to take with them? A few sets of gloves and not a lot more I would have thought.Would it, though? Might they not have been going on holiday? Now if it was tea-chest or one of those branded cardboard boxes it would be more likely that they were moving.
