BBC Sport - Football - I would not change Colchester tactics - John Ward

I was not at the game so cannot really comment, but his interview seemed pretty grounded, and none of the crap we got from the Pompey manager.

By the sound of the interview...neither was John Ward at the game!

Colchester were Niggly, moaning and dull. They broke well from the back and broke play down well for the first half hour and threatened as expected but overall showed why they are not quite cutting it higher up.

Ward commented about our fans would have been disgruntled at half time if we wernt one up....I strongly disagree, we had chances via the post we hit and other drives wide and were unlucky to not score earlier, so it was just a case of being patient as the chances were always going to come.

The way Ward describes it, it was as if...we were under performing due to they're superior tactics and it was only a matter of time before Col U scored, utter shit!

It took us a while as always to work them out and find a way through as they tried to be physical and get in the ref's ear, but as Gus stated before....teams that try and o this will be succesful for a while, but for 90 minutes, no chance!

The way Ward described it, we were lucky to be one up, they matched us which they did not. Our passing was far superior, we put the ball in the net twice, we defended solidly and for me it was close to a complete performance against a team of spoilers, I dont blame Col U for the way they went about it....but it wasnt pretty to see and they got what they deserved, naff all!

Harsh assesment from byf. Colchester were decent, especially for a long spell from 10-35 minutes of the first half. Their performance, and style of play, was streets ahead of what they've offered for the last few years, only reverting to long-ball type for the last 20 when Odejayi came on.

Fair scoreline, and we definitely deserved the points, but they were pretty good, imo.

Take them as you please mate.

Most away managers dont give an honest account of goings on, they usually come up with some old excuse or biast opinion, but thats what they have to do I suppose, they have to take some sort of positive for themselves or moan about a ref or an offsid...part and parcel.

On the back of the draw away at Southampton I was listening to the interview with Nigel ARROGANT Adkins, who was asked....whats his thoughts on the league one title and brightons chances to which his reply was " It really matters whether they can keep up with us"

As much as I enjoy a close rival game like soton away, they are my new hated team after Leeds departed this league......but at least leeds had something to be semi arrogant about.

Colchester are not a bad side given their financial limitations, their recent draw at Huddersfield is an indication. Could be a dark horse for the Play Offs.

Colchester were a side I could come to admire but for their excessive high-pitched whining, moany attitude and awful diving. Every team does it to some extent, but they weren't exactly subtle about it.

When they were on the ball, though, they looked a pretty decent side.

Not at all, we all have our opinion on what happened. Colchester set their stall out, looked good for the first period without hurting us, yes, they were physical and in the refs ear, so are we away from home.
BYF mentions the chances that went begging, this is my concern more than the opposition, why I bang on about the missing link up front.

They were not spoilers imo, they were competitive throughout, along with Oldham, MK Dons, Peterboro' , at least came here with a winning mentality.

As a post script, was not impressed with Barnes sniggering at their keeper near the end when he ( Barnes ) kicked the ball away. That's just a personal problem I have with the boy.

I thought they broke very well and at a decent enough pace to make me worried when they did, BUT, f**k me they were a dirty little bunch of moany spoilers too. For me they seemed a negative team who would look to hit teams on the break. Not a great deal of fun to watch week in week out I'd suspect. I'm glad that apart from the odd short spell we didn't respond to their niggly tactics but rose above them with some decent football.
