Like Terry, I still think Butt was very average.

I wouldn't say our defence has been the issue with England, at least from when I started watching the national team in 1990, until Rio and JT retired ironically enough.
It's his opinion. I've heard him say it several times. That's all. I'm not bothered whether you agree with him or not.

Well, you've been watching different tournaments to me then...2010, perhaps at the height of Terry's powers, the defence was as shambolic as it has ever been. Even Euro 96 would have likely been won had we been able to keep a clean sheet.
