Different world back then obviously, but he just climbed up Nelson's Column using a ladder. Legend.

Like so many here, the Noakes/Singleton/Purves era Blue Peter was an integral part of my childhood. RIP John.

I appreciated Jenny Hanley in a slightly different way though

Blue Peter. Another great reason for growing up in 70s/80s. Sad news indeed.

I didn't like the ITV version of Blue Peter, however I do agree with WATFORD zero and the young boy fascination with Jenny Hanley... cute as a button.

Poor John, he got to spend his time on Blue Peter throwing himself out of planes or ripping his arse to shreds, while Peter Purves spent his time shagging Val Singleton. He got a raw deal there

RIP

The impact of Noakes cannot be underestimated. A great role model for kids - fearless, he'd have a go at anything, sense of humour too. A TV giant. RIP John.

RIP John Noakes.

Never forgot the day he went hang gliding with the glider made out of a pair of Val's old knickers.

Magpie was s.hit as well in comparison. They never made things with straws, elastic bands and cotton reels like Blue Peter did.
