I like it – especially the bit with SoshDist-friendly inter-house cracker

A poor advert. You can see what it's trying to do, but it misses the target IMO. Even worse is the absence of the word "winterval" in your OP, crodonilson. Disappointing.

Very disappointing, doesn't make me want to celebrate Christmas as all.

We needed just one thing, something , anything to lift us from this gloom.

Our only hope is the annual Marks and Spencer underwear adverts. that is something we can all get behind.............

I'm not sure they can call this a Christmas advert.
It seems to be purposely sidestepping the Christmas theme and trying to be appealing to everyone buying gifts for their festival of choice(Christmas,Diwali, etc).
Because they are trying to appeal to everyone it's a bit average and it is certainly not a Christmas advert.
The music is also a bit average and feels like a Mish mash of all old fesrive songs but careful to leave out any feeling of festive season.
None of these make it a bad advert.its just not a Christmas advert.
One thing however which is incredibly irresponsible and I will lodge a complaint about it is the barber scene where he is laughing with his eyes closed swinging the scissors around and then lunges at the kids eyes and by luck cuts the fringe.
This bit is just stupid to put in a family advert at a time when a lot of family's are cutting hair at home,or even if kids try copying the scene.
This scene should be edited out asap.

Very patriotic this year - M&S supports Brexit with a Red, White and Blue Christmas and a dystopian New Year...

An incredible song by Celeste (for you music moguls you may remember her previously from Daphne & Celeste fame).

Possibly their best ever.

Celeste, being the Brightonian (went to Varndean College) who also sings Stop This Flame, the title music for Sky Sports Football. Rather than the one from Daphne & Celeste!

Listen carefully to this and then to the classic ‘Oooh stick you’ track and you’ll hear straight away it’s the same Celeste. There’s only one Celeste.

Horrible, syrupy drivel. Christ, what's the matter with people? John Lewis is just a SHOP desperate to sell people loads of STUFF at Christmas so they've managed to engineer this faux Christmas tradition and so many people are sucked in.

Although I'll admit it's just the latest in a long line of faux Christmas traditions engineered over the centuries.

Every year I'm left completely nonplussed at people who actually pay attention and purposefully watch particular ads on the telly. This was never a "thing" to my knowledge until about 6-7 years ago.

Admittedly I don't watch an awful lot of commercial TV, but when I do, and we arrive at an ad break, its either fast-forwarded or I go flicking. Who are these people who actually sit through them and pay attention to them ?

Weird.
