Wow, he has spanned my local sporting life. Mixture of stories of Wally Hammond, rare bird sightings and the occasional burst of GOSBTS.

Wasn't he a champion athletics walker as well.

Good Luck Jon, hope its all football, cricket and bird watching from here in.

Didn't he once walk coast to coast across the entirety of the USA?

Amazing.

Love the Lees. Part of the clubs fabric and holy trinity as you say Harty.

Happy retirement John!

Indeed. His rather prickly contribution to the safe standing debate:

"If you want to stand up at a match, then go and stand outside" ???
Mmmkay John.

Anyway, he's been a familiar voice down the years. A well-earned retirement, probably the right time.

A radio legend. He will be missed.

Is he still with one of our more famous supporters or did that end?

Standing in the way of control
Will always associate him with desperately listening in for news - any news at all - of new signings on weekday mornings when we so badly needed any glimpse of quality during the Gillingham years.

"Albion have been knocked back by Colchester reserve striker..." "Albion have been priced out of the running for Mansfield winger..." "Jeff Wood says there were signs of improvement during the club's fifth 5-0 home defeat in a row" etc etc. He must have been tempted to have a sneaky rum most mornings, it was like a spaced out funeral service for hope

When the 'Buy a player fund Mark 2' happened (Rod Thomas) I spent a good part of the walk with Leesy. Loves The Albion and Sussex CCC. Enjoy your retirement JL.

Can't be denied that his cricket commentaries had rather subsided in recent years e.g.

What a beautiful flick down the legside, must be 4 runs........ Oh he didn't hit it & it's taken the leg stump out :lolol:

Hope he enjoys his retirement!
