I don't get it, half you lot talk about little else than your meat & two veg yet so many men don't pick up that there's anything wrong until it's at an advanced stage. As I understand it, male cancers are statistically diagnosed a lot later than many female specific tumours.

Either you aren't quite as active as you'd like us all to think, or you're too afraid/embarrassed to get checked out.

Not worth getting embarrassed about, is it? Really?

g'luck to John, hope he pulls through.

I have actually been to have suspicious lumps in that area checked out, and, whilst moderately embarassing, was well worth doing in the long run.

Hartson critical after surgery

Former Wales, Arsenal and Celtic striker John Hartson who is fighting testicular cancer is in a critical condition in hospital.

Doctors have confirmed that the cancer which had already spread to his brain, has now been diagnosed in his lungs.

The 34-year-old, capped by Wales 51 times, was diagnosed at the weekend.

He was transferred to Morriston Hospital in Swansea on Tuesday and underwent emergency surgery and is now receiving round-the-clock care.

It is sounding dreadful. REALLY hope he makes a strong recovery, but the fear is they are still finding organs it has spread to.

Only need to read Lance Armstrong's story to know there's still hope even at this stage.

Lung Cancer 5% survival rate after 5 years. Added to the Brain Cancer in all fairness and terrible to say but he has weeks not months to live I am afraid.

As many have said, it isn't lung cancer, it's testicular cancer - the cancer is always described from its primary source. If it spread to his brain, it's not surprising that it's in his lungs as well, it may well be in other places. I'm surprised they've done surgery, I presume it's to relieve symptoms.

Whatever you call it, it's spread a lot, and that's got to be a bad sign, and badly affect his chances of getting through this.
