This won't seem particulary popular.....but I think the ban is too harsh.
I don't believe this. He admits he bet on games that his club, his EMPLOYER, paying him shitloads of money were involved in, and presumably bet against them. Think about that very carefully when you say too harsh. I think he is very lucky that his isn't a lifetime ban.
It is of no relevance hat he has a gambling problem, he can lose his shirt in many ways that don't involve football, and end up in the gutter, That would be unfortunate, but to use his inside knowledge against his employer and his sport is way beyond the pale.
Think Hansie Cronje, banned for life.....
