Nobody has commented that Barton takes an almighty swipe/hack through the back of Song, which is why Song reacted to Barton and stamped on him. Should have been a yellow for Barton and a straight red for Song. Second incident should have been a second yellow for Barton and a red for Gervinho.

This. Saves me typing the same opinion!
If it was our player we'd be applauding him - though with his rep it was a bit silly to make it his business to pick the diver up off the grass.
The Arsenal player deserved to walk, and Wenger was his usual myopic twatty self

Complete rubbish. It was a penalty. Gervinho went down easily but he was caught by the defender. Barton then hauls him up by the neck, which should have been a red card but the referee wasn't watching. Gervinho had to go but Barton's play acting was a disgrace. As someone said earlier in the thread, it is massively hypocritical to square up to someone because you think they have dived and then go down like that when you are tapped on the face (you can even see the delayed reaction he had on MotD when he thought shall I stay on my feet or collapse holding my face). Finally, he tries to claim that Gervinho punched him. He is a complete disgrace.

As for Wenger, what did he say wrong? He was right that Barton should have gone too. Sadly a lot of football fans don't like Wenger and seem to find any reason to slag him off (probably because he is actually more educated than the average football manager). Yes he is not perfect but does not deserve the abuse he gets.

Barton has had a go at Shearer now on twitter "bad shoes, bad shirt bad remarks from Sheraer again, sort it out slaphead"

One way to piss of the Toon fathfull i suppose.

I actually thought Tiote clipped Gervinho and the penalty could have been given. No mention of Alex Song this morning though for his awful stamp!! Barton is right in that sense if that was him we wouldn't hear the end of it.

Well for a start Barton shouldn't have got involved at all, I did say that - but ANY contact from hand to face is a sending off and the ref got that absolutely correct regardless - he must have seen Barton had shammed the force, but refs and managers prefer that to retaliation so - well done Barton. As has been said, and refs also are aware - sides will go after Barton knowing his repute. He is an arse, but he shouldn't be an unprotected player that refs send off every match because of his name.

You are joking about Wenger - the guy is a whinging pratt who sees nothing his players do wrong, and everything from opposing players. When his team loses it's NEVER the superiority of the opposition, but they cheated/the ref handed them advantages/bad luck etc. The WORST 'sport' in the game = wenger. He's brought his continental style of cheating to England, and deservedly wins sod-all nowadays. Intelligent? Repugnant ass more like.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce displayed how a manager should - admitting offenses that should be punished and thankful for the good refereeing decision that went his way. Neil Warnock too was accepting of his side's defeat, and shrugged it off with credit to the other team in the game.

wenger is a discredit to the game. Fact.

Joey Barton earns his living doing the job i would like most in the world and earns more in 1 week than most of us do in a year, and that is the only FACT he probably cares about.

Doesn't stop him being a tosser though.

I did have a modicum of sympathy for Herr Barton and his recent uncertainties before yesterday's pathetic display. Although he did deal with the "stamping" with some degree of restraint, he reverted to type with the way that he hauled the Arsenal player to his feet by his neck. As for the "tap" to his face, come on Joey, I thought you were made of sterner stuff son. Who else thinks that he must have insulted his barber who took his revenege with that haircut? FAIL

Bit of a tread rather than a stamp by Song (but still not justifiable) Think the ref lost it on the penalty appeal, both should have gone. Every pantomime needs an villain.

Sleeping on the roof
to be fair to joey (much as I dislike him) he came across as far more reasonable on 606 today than Robbie Savage.

Yeah I have to give him credit too. Admitted he got it wrong and Tiote did clip Gervinho and that he shouldn't have got involved dragging him up off the ground. Not many footballers actually admit to doing anything wrong, ever.

I seem to go back and forth on if I like him or not, its hard to look past that assault though.
