I'm a big admirer of Glenn but let's be honest he shouldn't be our first choice striker any more. No doubt, however, he'll be leading the line against Watford with the club pretending everything will be alright on the night. Never have I looked forward less to the start of a new season.

Feel like this one has flop written all over it.

Hello if you're reading this in 2021 when Joelinton has just moved to Real for £850 million with add-ons after scoring 40 goals in successive seasons.

Ashley always does just enough, signing the quality and fast playmaker Almiron in January for £20m to feed their strikers. He immediately made a big difference.

Ashley is a Football Genius.

Just like NSC's.

How many players per window can you £40 million on?

If the answer is '1' and the rest of the squad is as mediocre -- or dire - as it was before you spent the £40 million, you're screwed unless the transfer comes up aces.

I don't see the advantage in engineering a team on a single-point-of-failure design basis.

What happened to the bloke they signed from Atlanta ?
Hasn't exactly torn up any trees since he went to the Toon

Toon fans credit Almiron as the reason Perez had a cracking second half to the season, he gets Newcastle moving forward. He is a decent player and I would have him here in a heartbeat.

If that's the sort of fee we need to pay for a PL striker for some random that most of us would need to Google, could probably get Ashley Barnes for that amount, with a guaranteed crop of goals.

And if he also had a crop of missed half chances we'd have a ready made scapegoat so win / win

Ashley, does just enough. As does, Bloom, Parish, the chairman of Southampton, Burnley etc

Absolutely. The name of the game for us customers is survival and finishing 1 place above the bottom 3. There is no ambition at the moment for anything apart from that and it applies to all the teams in the premier apart from the super rich ones who are in a different league anyway. Makes for a fascinating season...scraping out 1-0 wins and trying to draw games away from home off those in our league. I can’t wait for it all to start again.

Incorrect.

Parish, Gold/Sullivan, Leicester’s owners, Wolves owners, all do far more than just enough to survive in the PL.

Mid-table PL football bought by paying huge wages and paying a far greater maximum transfer fee than the Albion, to achieve that.

CP have the highest, or one of the highest, wage spend to income ratios in world football. Parish has opted to take that route to acquire/borrow players to give them mid-table football.

Very strange they didn’t really chase Rondon who is worth 12 - 15 goals a season and they could have got him for around £16 mil. He seemed to have a very positive effect on them lest year!
