Yes, we had both Roy Keane and Ian Wright here on trial as youngsters and turned them both down.
Not exactly, Keane would have had to pay his own airfare from Ireland so opted for Forest who had enough faith in what they saw to actually get him a ticket. (I believe this is the story) So he was never actually on trial here.

I really wish the lad well, as this is where a big chunk of our future is coming from.

But talk about people ignoring the whole truth, trialled with both Ipswich and Brentford, twice overlooked by West Ham. The whole picture please!

He trialled with Ipswich and Brentford over 2 years ago, he's filled out a lot since then, and he's shining in the Conference South showing a lot more strength pace and power. Not surprising that trialling as a now 19 year old with first team football behind him he's looking a lot better. Trialled with West Ham this summer too, but lets face it they are Prem League and have a lot more talent within the squads already.

Couple of goals and some assists from Ward on their goals reel. Nothing too much to get excited about on the footage, but a taste of what he is about. Goals from Ward at the start and at 3.08.

That is a different story to the one Keane tells in his biography (although it is a while since I read it). He claims the club cancelled the trial the day before he was due to travel, we never said why we were cancelling it but he thinks it was because he was very small for his age. I think it was a year or two later that he went to Forest.

Harry Redknapp tells a totally different story about Barry Lloyd going to watch Keane but the manager of the side he was playing for refused to play him and we never followed up on it. But if anyone believes a word 'Arry says they are idiots.

Hopefully Joe Ward will become the Roy Keane for Ipswich, Brentford and West Ham.

This happens and has happened to some of the best players in the world. Sometimes several unsuccessful trials before getting a big break.

Cafu was rejected 16 times by different Brazillian pro clubs before getting picked up full-time. Bobby Robson turned down both Gascoigne and Gullit as kids at Ipswich too. It means absolutely nothing to me that other teams have 'passed' on him.

You maybe correct, but the truth is we let these players slip through our grasp, like hopefully West Ham and Ipswich have with Ward.

It can't be long now before a few DS players start to get through into the our First Team squad. :)

In last few years Walton, JFC, March, Ince, Tilley, Rea have all graduated to first team squads after spells in DS. 3 are now regular first teamers when fit. 4 are youth internationals.
This is what Ward said impressed him about the club and [was one of the reasons he was] persuaded him to sign.
