Sold Barnes too.

That's a stupid thing to say. I don't know how many penalties he's scored, I only know that the one against us was a pen. He's got 10 goals so far, and if 5 were penalties, suddenly 5 from open play doesn't sound very impressive.

Barnes was out of contract in the summer too, so I don't see why they'd sell Conway for less than we sold Barnes.

Because he's also out of contract in the summer, and if he doesn't make Cardiff's 25 then he'll cost them around 300k to sit in the reserves. If Barnes had stayed, he'd have been in every match day squad, injury notwithstanding.

I get that.

So how are you going to pay them NEXT year?

#redknapp

Using the playing budget? And remember, we are talking hypothetically depending how much the players would demand. Could be more, could be less. Also basing it on we get £3.5m for Briductt, again could be more or could be less, if we sell him that is.

One thing I really don't understand is our current transfer budget. We here stories about us being priced out of moves for players yet it doesn't make sense. We were told (by both Bloom and Barber) that the player budget has actually had a slight increase than the budget last season. Last season we didn't spend any excessive money bar the £2million for Ulloa. We also bid £2.5million for van Dijk, meaning that we had that money in the budget. By my maths, that means that this seasons transfer budget would be £4.5million + a slight increase (possibly 500k more) so it should be around £5million. During last summer, I think I'm right in saying the only money we paid out was compensation to MK Dongs for Chicksen. So surley we should have £5million to spend?

They don't work transfer money out as you're indicating. What they do is add together the transfer fee and the wages spent over the duration of a contract. So, Ulloa cost c£2m on a four year deal; they work the cost of this out as £500,000 per year plus whatever his wages, bonuses, etc amount to.

Yeah I get that mate, but surley if thats what we would afford for him last season, plus upsons wages, plus the whatever personal terms we offered van Dijk.......why do we then this year claim to have very little to spend? Maybe its a bluff, I dont know

TBH I don't know, but penalties are goals and count just the same as those from open play.
They count in the game, but when placing a value on a player, goals in open play are a better indicator or a players skill, and therefore value.
Seems a bit of an overreaction on your part to my lighthearted comment.
I didn't know your comment was lighthearted, and I hardly reacted at all. I was joining in the (extremely) serious discussion about what players we might bring in.

Because he's also out of contract in the summer, and if he doesn't make Cardiff's 25 then he'll cost them around 300k to sit in the reserves. If Barnes had stayed, he'd have been in every match day squad, injury notwithstanding.
If we're the only club that's interested in Conway, the fact that they're not playing should play a part, but if others are interested (and I expect they would be), then it's not relevant he's not playing - he'll be off their books, and go to the highest bidder. That should be more than 500k. And even if we're the only bidder, you'd expect Cardiff to tell us there are others, and I'd expect us to pay at least £1m.

other rumour from a very reliable source (Richie barkers nephew who spoke to him at the weekend)
jed Wallace has been repeatedly offered new contract deals although he has denied them all as he is set for a move for us. hes been their key player this year and don't want him to leave but i feel he could be a good signing :ascarf:

Is he an attacking centre midfielder?

Well, according to another poster he has 8 from open play. I hope that helps.

@SkySportsPeteO: Brighton are eyeing moves for Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban and Cardiff City forward Joe Mason. #BHAFC #AFCB #cardiffcityfc

From a very reliable source.

I'm struggling to see how anyone really decent would want to come to us as a striker knowing that we only ever play 1 up front??- Unless Ulloa is on his way out?

IMO, and that is potentially not worth a lot, I can't see him being sold… I do agree in that moving form us to you, would be a step up but only slightly… You're in the same division and not really setting the world alight this season, however, (before you all jump on that) I do recognise that BHA as a club are bigger than AFCB and the potential to go further is greater, in the near future…

However, I can't for 1 minute see that Eddie Howe wants rid of him as he has become integral to how we ares set up… We don't have another striker that plays his role anywhere near as good, and he allows us to play 5 in the middle, which Howe seems to really like…

I can't see the owners wanting to sell him as he could be worth double, if not triple 1.1 million in the summer, if he keeps on scoring at his current rate… and, the long term goal is to stay in the Championship and progress… Something that selling your leading goal scorer does not help…

The only way we'd sell him is if Grabbs suddenly says 'he wants to go'… At that point you have no choice than to negotiate the best deal...

I really hope I'm wrong as I don't want him to go and if he does, you will have yourself one hell of a workhorse and great player, that offers so much more than just scoring…

Not sure the right striker wouldn't play with Ulloa.

The same was written about Ash Barnes. He went.
