[Football] Joe Lycett to shred £10k if Becks continues his World Cup promotion...

Think its fair to say there are varying levels of complicity. At the lowest level is the players and the manager, somewhere in the middle is Gary Neville and his decision to work for Bein Sport but Becks role sure surpasses all.

Just pure money grabbing and looking the other way. And lets face it, he doesn't need the cash. Maybe he should offer to give the cash to our worthy cause, though the damage is done really

I suspect regardless of the sentiment there would be too much legal red tape to untie for Beckham to pull out at this stage.

It always struck me as pretty tone deaf and wholly unnecessary from Beckham, who between him and his wife have a combined net worth of something like half-a-billion. Why sully your name like that for what is little more than pocket money for a man of his wealth, especially when, as Lycett points out, he is somewhat of a gay icon?

It’s a rhetorical question; I know the answer. It’s easy money, it’s greed.

But saddens me how little value the modern world seems to place on values.

What a total prat Lycett is. The posh rage he shows in his little video is pathetic, what difference does he think it's going to make for him to shred 10k? Who empowers him to speak for anyone other than himself? If he's got 10k to shred, he can do a little bit more to help the groups or people he wants to speak for. A totally empty threat and just attention seeking. It's easy to throw stones at others but what's he doing to make things better for anyone?

er, of course it's attention seeking.

Must admit until the recent Laura K interview on BBC I'd never heard of him. Seems to know how to get publicity though.

I'm not sure shredding £10k is a great look in times like these either. Maybe he'll do something else when it comes to it...

At a time of high inflation, burning money would seem to be an excellent idea. Maybe the government should do more of it.
Seriously though, the whole point of any protest is to get publicity. Burning £10,000 doesn't actually cost anybody anything, and gets in all the papers. Whereas, for example, gluing yourself to a road or throwing paint over some notable landmark wastes huge amounts of people's time and energy which could be usefully spent elsewhere.

The zero cost of it also makes it easier to ignore than if you block a road protesting environmental destruction or your club getting f***ed over by some greedy ****s selling it to property developers.

Its the perfect modern-day protest: 1. generates 15 minutes of fame for this bloke 2. objective has zero impact (Beckham is not a Qatarian law maker), 3. causes inconvenience for no-one so everyone (especially David Beckham) can just ignore it.

The outcome of this move: nothing, aside for this bloke getting a few pats on his back and a couple of good-will gigs that'll make him earn back the money he may or may not put in the shredder.

Given we are so far away from April Fools day this just has to be a leaked Red Nose Day stunt.

The only way marrying a spice girl could ever be gay would be if you're a female Shirley?
So much of that statement / drivel is founded on comedy [unfortunately].
Fair play to JL for keeping the smirk off his face ....

The better option would be for Beckham to 'earn' the £10m and then donate those proceeds if he really cared. That said, if someone offered me £10m to show my face for a couple of weeks, shake a few hands and have my mug on posters, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Wouldn't bother me if it was for Qatar, North Korea, Saudi etc
