Jimmy Carr - I do not pay a penny more tax than I have to.

He had a chance to put his hand up and say "I got it wrong" and put things right, but no, the arrogant twat pushes it further down our throats ... for every penny he doesn't pay us law abiding people have to pay more, twat!

If they're travelling all the time, don't stay here much, and they are within the accepted rules, I'm ok with it. No doubt Monaco are charging them 25% or something. But to just set-up a fake loan (one that you will never pay back) and not pay any tax at all (1% or so) is sickening.

Monaco charge individuals no income tax. Companies registered there pay no tax either unless more than 25% of their turnover is generated outside Monaco, then they pay 33% after allowable deductions, works out at under 6% in real terms.

He hasn't broken any laws though, it may be morally dubious or unjust but it's not illegal. It's upto the government to close these loop-holes when they are exposed. Although it won't take a decent accountant long to find another one.

Oh.

So in the case of racing drivers, they'd be earning most of their money outside of Monaco, so shouldn't they be paying a large chunk?

Trouble is for every £1 that Jimmy Carr avoids it means less chance of my tax being reduced in the future. I hated him on the jubilee show anyway. Run out of talent and just tried to be "edgy" with the Royal Family. Off with his head.

So if the K2 loophole is closed will a lot of these companies file winding up orders ? Jimmy Carr - the Crystal Palace of the comedy circuit.

I guess it depends on how they are paid, I'd think the money they earn from driving in F1 is paid as a salary so no income tax. Sponsorship money from endorsements etc will no doubt be through some sort of company looking after their imaging rights so more than likely that will be liable for corporation tax, however after allowable deductions that works out at under 6% in real terms so they aren't paying much no matter what, that's if the company is registered in Monaco. It's why these people move to Monaco.

I used to like Jimmy Carr but find him a bit of a twat nowadays. He has a face that screams to be slapped and looks quite evil. He tried to be edgy with the RF but looked a fool. His comments today when people are busting their arses just to scrape by was a slap in the face.

Hmm...a wealthy son of a millionaire who thinks it's clever to rob schools, hospitals, and every normal working person in the UK of as much as he can get away with. The only surprise is that Cameron has not approached him to be a Tory sugar daddy.

It used to be perfectly acceptable to find ways to hide your money from the tax man, who was very much the big bad wolf. There have been threads on how to avoid Stamp Duty etc on this very board. I wonder if attitudes are changing?

I think it's the fact that the average person is more aware of it these days. In the good times, no-one gave a shit because we all had plenty of money in our pockets. Now things are tougher for everyone, the issue has been brought into the spotlight more by the media, making the masses aware of it. Its always gone on...they just chose to ignore it...until now.

The fact that Cameron said its morally wrong is the funny bit. Oh the irony.

Why - do you have evidence that suggests Cameron has avoided tax or is it just an anti-Tory rant ?

Let's remember that that Ken Livingstone has avoided tax and he's Labour through and through.

Perhaps if Carr changed his name to Vodaphone, then rather than being vilified, he would get official governmental support to minimise his tax bill?

Barlow on the other hand is well on the way to salvation with his recent gong. I believe that a baronetcy or a lordship is what is normally required to be officially excused from criticism regarding taxation although I guess at a pinch he could always apply for a job as Tory Party Treasurer.......................

So long as none of them ever want to be treated at an NHS hospital if they have a car accident while over here. Or want help from a policeman if they get robbed. Or expect their kids to be educated at a UK school or university.

I should have added that Carr and Barlow should be boycotted completely. There is a moral obligation to pay tax and if they avoid it then why should anyone buy their tickets ?

There is still the fact that these F1 drivers are not allowed to spend too much time in England or they will be liable for tax. Eets complicated but although lewis hamilton is employed by a british company ( McLaren) most of his actual "work " is overseas.
Jimmy Carr on the other hand, tours extensively here and appears in too many british tv progs filmed here, therefore, gaining nearly all his earnings here and as such that should be liable to full tax. It's the usual story though, only those with money can afford to hire the companies that save them £M.

Very true. I'm not defending these people by the way, i'm just making the point that now HM Government is skint, they are making a big deal of it, when before they weren't....should never of let them get away with it in the first place imo.

I suppose the only good thing is that it keeps Ken Bates out of the country and in Monaco for most of the year. Just imagine the people and businesses he's shafted over the years then stashed it all 'offshore' so he doesn't pay tax.
