Had a good chat with him at Stansted airport last month. The Hull team were waiting for flight to Slovenia for their pre-season tour. I told him he should try and sign for Brighton. He looked a bit sheepish in front of his team mates but he gave it a good few seconds consideration before grinning and replying tactfully that Brighton are a good team that are definately on the up! I was quite amused to hear he subsequently got suspended by Hull for misbehaving on the tour, maybe he was trying to engineer a swift exit!

I wonder what he did! he doesnt strike me as the type of player to get himself into trouble but i guess he does seem up for a laugh!! apparently norwhich and qpr are interested in signing him!

It must have been something significant. And also interesting that there seems to be total silence on the issue.

I'm not one for taking punts on players which have history of injury. None ever seem to come off. And such transfers generally look like slightly desperate attempts from smaller clubs to get a name player who in any other circumstances would not consider the club.

But people lose their jobs all the time, purely because this or that company needs to cut costs. Why are football clubs treated differently?

They're not different in any way, but you can bet his contract is different to most peoples employment contracts. If they actually "sack" him for good reason, they would not have to pay up the remainder of his contract.

Of course, the term "sacked" is used far more often in football than is technically the case, usually for managers they get a paid pay-off/mutual agreement and have not actually been sacked as most people would understand it.

Cutting costs shouldn't be linked with finding reasons or excuses to sack someone. I'm not saying Bullard didn't deserve to be sacked, I don't know the full details. But the point is, Hull would be far less likely to sack what they'd consider to be a "key" player for the same offence than they would a guy who's on a fortune and is a permanent sicknote.

Equally any semi competent lawyer will argue that as Hull have a financial benefactor his wages are not a problem, so the decision that they made was not influenced by financial concerns.

Just citing the case that Wise managed to overturn Leicesters decision on the basis that it wasn't made on the merits of the incident, but was instead a financial decision to get him off the wage bill. Hull are apparently more financially secure than Leicester were at the time, but who's to say they still wouldn't want to get an expensive sicknote out the door, given the opportunity ?

There is no way Bullard will be commanding a big wage now, not with his injury history.

Unfortunately, I can't see anyone getting many games out of him, but if they do, he'll be a great signing for someone.

been saying for ages we could do with a bullard type player, would be a brilliant signing if he took a dramatic wage drop

Good call, I think the same about Messi, and again, if he is prepared to take the drop in wages could do a job.
