If I was gonna include a Stones guitarist it would be Mick Taylor
yep, there's widespread reports that Richards was jealous of Taylor's ability

Remember big arguments between my mates in the late 60's about Hendrix or Clapton being the greatest electric guitarist of that time with opinion evenly split. I was in the Hendrix camp. Iconic cover on the Electric Ladyland cover. Favourite track is "All along the watchtower". In fact I have told my wife I want it played at my funeral
Did anyone else on NSC see Hendrix play at Falmer? 11 November 1967.
The review, published in WINE PRESS (the Sussex University newspaper):-
‘A Disappointing Experience’
“The Jimi Hendrix Experience, one of the most costly groups yet to appear at this University, (£500), was in general disappointing. Arriving twenty minutes late and spending further time tuning their instruments, they eventually played for less than half the hour for which they were booked. A crowd of nearly 2,000 crammed into level 2 of the New Refectory saw him do mainly blues, which require from him only a minimum of effort. He did not even play all his hits, although he reproduced extremely well the difficult ‘The Burning Of The Midnight Lamp’. Even his famed version of ‘Wild Thing’ was only marginally superior to that of ‘The Troggs’. On the other hand, an unknown group – ‘Ten Years After’, - played three times as long for far less cash (£60). The dance was again infiltrated by non-students, who obtained their tickets from the College of Education.”

8. Wild Thing
All for just 10 shillings (50p)
Yup agree 100% with this, although Jeff Beck and Peter Green also came into the arguments from my memory.
First 45 I bought I think was "The Wind Cries Mary". But it might have beeen a Hollies number though...the SHAME.
Eight songs in "less than the half hour they were booked for" !!!!!!!!
Average song length maximum of 4 mins 15 seconds!!!!!
And splendid University snobbery regarding "non students from the College of Education". Would they be trainee teachers by any chance?
IS?
Surely not now! he' been dead for 30 odd years!
Steve Hackett. Or Steve Howe (although those would probably be favourites rather than 'bests' although the two seem relatively interchangeable when you ask people). Oh, and Frank Zappa.
I love these threads when all the NSC music snobs come out with alternatives to whatever list had been put out by various rock journalists.
Who gives a shit? If you like Hendrix, great. If not, that's great too. Don't get worked up by it.
