It's a UEFA rule - clubs which are majority owned by the same parent cannot both play in the same competition. Which, tbf, seems logical.I suspect the prospect of a future move to City was a factor there. I'm not sure I'll ever understand why Bloom had to give up his stake in USG while the likes of Qatar and Saudi Arabia are allowed to have big stakes in (or full ownership of) multiple clubs and use them in this way.
